FlyerNut Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I'm curious if anyone has examples of layouts that combine both city and modular buildings. I'm about to build my first layout and have the newer modular buildings (fire brigade on up) and several city sets. As the buildings are typically different heights and styles I wonder if they'd look odd together. Or maybe an old city section of town and a new section? Quote
Darthluke824 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) I got my first Modular Building (Town Hall) last year at Easter and I have loved it! I have a small layout with the 1 building next to Creators Apple Tree House and a Fire Testing Ground next to it. Since there is a giant Dark Orange wall I made a poster that says 'Brixicola' on the side. It fits well and it will look good with the new Cinema. In short if there is room and you pick the right type of building (Shops, Emergency...), yes they should fit. Hope this helps! Here are some members layouts that might help: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=64802 [Lexington by Bob] http://www.eurobrick...24#entry1163235 [studwell City by Bakar A] Edited February 19, 2013 by Darthluke824 Quote
Phazon Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 It depends on which sets you want to combine with the Modulars and also on the way you want to incorporate the Modulars with the city sets. Here are some more examples: TheYellowBrick: WIP MOC - Lego City And this one: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34171 (including creator sets) Quote
SalvoBrick Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Personally I don't like mixing city buildings with modulars: on the other hand, creator buildings (at least the older ones) can be mixed with modulars: they are both with "closed back" and bigger than city sets Quote
Luke Styer Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 From straight on I'm sure it wouldn't always even be all that obvious you were mixing. From other angles, it would show up more, of course. For my part, I only have one actual Modular set, but I have rebuilt my three CITY buildings into the modular standard. Quote
Androo Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I think it depends on how you feel and where you place them on a layout, because the City buildings are often a lot shorter too. Also a little additional work to add to the city buildings would help. I'm just about to try and modularise the Forest Police HQ! I put some hinged rear walls on the other day using a second set I bought cheaply but I'm thinking of adding a second floor because the one little office is too small to house my 18 officers. Quote
alois Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 City buildings and modular buildings do not mix at all in my opinion. The scale is completely different. But city vehicle sets do mix rather well with modular buildings, I think. Quote
melbs Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 like what it was made for, they are just that, modulars for adults and city for kids. and the difference is also that much felt when you put them side by side. i like to put city theme sets together with creator houses to form a suburban feel, while keeping modulars and hopefully making moc modulars to form my old downtown city area.
