Hi everybody, I've been lurking on these forums for a while now, and figured I should probably get around to writing one of this hello posts. Back in my youth I was an avid collector of Lego, mainly focusing on the Space (m-tron, blacktron (2?), space police (2?), ice planet, spyrius, i think that's it?), trains, and a bit of city and castle. It's a pity there were no Star Wars sets back then, but given how I treated my Lego sets as a kid, that's probably a good thing. Went into my dark ages in the mid 90s sometime around the end of elementary school, though I sort of Lego'd vicariously through my younger nephews during that time, especially after the first few star wars sets came out. I remember being jealous of their x-wing set (the original system scale version, 7140). As they also grew out of their Lego phase, my collection just became that big group of boxes that took up storage space and were largely forgotten. I vaguely remember seeing a few Star Wars UCS sets at the Mall of America Lego store, but I was so disconnected from Lego that it didn't really dawn on me how sweet they were at the time, they were just sort of a novelty or something for the kids and I largely ignored them.

Fast forward to 2011, when out of the blue, a Lego Shop@Home Catalog for someone a few houses down the street was misdelivered to me. Before bringing it to its proper address, I decided to have a look just for nostalgia purposes. Some of the highlights were the Emerald Night and one of the first appearances of the Executor 10221 set, among the other star wars ones. Needless to say the itch had returned at that point, thanks to the completely random event of one piece of misdelivered mail. I didn't want to drop a ton of money into it at first, getting my feet wet with the small Star Wars midi sets of the Millennium Falcon and the Star Destroyer. Itching to get back into the swing of things while waiting for my purchased sets to arrive, I tried my hand at a Star Destroyer of my own with what grey pieces I could find in my old boxes of Lego. You don't want to see it, it looks awful - I sort of ran out of the proper pieces halfway through it and had to make do with what I had left in gray (old gray BTW - at this point I didn't even know the difference between old gray and bley  ). That Christmas I received the 7965 Falcon and it snowballed from there.

I have mostly focused on Star Wars, perhaps feeling the need to make up for not having the theme during my childhood. It does help that I am an original trilogy purist and am not a huge fan of minifig heavy sets, so the new habit isn't putting nearly as big of a dent in my wallet as it could have, although with the heavy focus on reduxes of OT ships in 2012, my collection has still grown quite quickly. My shelves now have nearly every original trilogy ship released in the last year along with a few other things - 9495, 9493, 9492, 9500, 75003, 10221, and 10225. I also have the 10212 shuttle completed but nowhere to display it . I also have the aforementioned terrible star destroyer moc and a WIP tie interceptor moc based on the 2012 tie fighter which I may post at some point if I ever get around to finishing it to my satisfaction. I also have 2 young nephews (not the same ones mentioned earlier) who are into all things Lego at the moment, so it's great to be able to share the hobby with them. Lately I've begun expanding beyond just SW, as I received the Sopwith Camel for Xmas, I just splurged for a sealed Emerald Night, and I also plan to get at least one Horizon Express at some point. Yep, my dark ages are definitely over. :classic:
