I have recently read the book Starship Troopers and I think it has great posibility as a lego theme.

I have tinkered a bit with making some. For the drop pods I used the galaxy squad pods and put galaxy partol minifigs in them. The alien Galaxy squad sets also have great potental. Also the galaxy partol mini figs from series 7 work really well and fit in the galaxy squad pods.

any ideas???

If you are going from the book, I'd recomend brick built hardsuits

(not my design)

The book and the movie are very different, but I Like them both. I think they complement each other.

I guess you are a little late to the party: Space Troopers has already reached the 10,000 supporters threshold on Cuusoo and is now up for review for possible production. :)

I was basing it off the book

also a starship troopers film remake entered production in december 2011 so once the film is relesed it would be an idel time for sets

also space troopers formaly space marines is not at all the same

I LOVED starship troopers.

Both the book and the movie.

Though due to highly violent movie (did I mention how much I liked the movie?) I doubt that this would make a kid friendly license. Not to mention LEGO currently has a somewhat analogous theme.

Well doing a bit of research it seems like the movie i already out!

Everyone to amazon!

(seems to be CGI animation... not that that's a bad thing.)

Bungie got inspiration for Halo from the movie Starship Troopers.

Gee, another Lucas eh ?

And also I agree that it's a little on the bloody side so Lego would turn it's nose up at it or Galaxy Squad might be the kid friendly Starship Troopers ?

You know, I built some Starship Troopers (mostly book based) MOCs a long time ago (it was 2007; in fact, it's been so long I did not remember I made 3 separate topics for them), when the best hard suits were those from Aquanauts and such likes. Anyway, if you'd like to have a look (and forgive the not so good quality), here they are: drop-pods and a little vig, two more vigs and a LDD version of the Rodger Yound (movie style), and the bugs.

Nowadays, I'd probably go with the CMF space marines and use more specialised parts for the aliens, not to mention a re-design of the drop-pods. Maybe, some day...

Well I read the book as well and though the original movie was fun, it totally bastardized Heinlein's vision so I don't really hold out much hope for any remake.

But to suggest that because the Cuusoo project was originally titled "Space Marines" it, "is not at all the same" is absurd. Sci-Fi armoured fighting troops from Games Workshop's Warhammer 40K to the Aliens movies have all been influenced by Heinlein's classic work. The Galaxy trooper in the collectible minifigure series which serves as the base for the Space Marines/Troopers project is an excellent interpretation of the powered suits in Heinlein's work in LEGO form.

Exo-armour combined with a spacesuit, what more could you want? How different could it be in minifigure scale? Why on earth are you slagging a Cuusoo project that has already reached 10,000 supporters?

I would think you would be happy that it is close to production and while maybe not exactly how you would design it at least it has a chance of being put into production.

Oh yeah, I can't ever imagine LEGO making a Starship troopers theme, way too much violence, language, nudity, gore...

Galaxy Squad is pretty much a kid friendly Starship troopers as you say .
