legofreak86 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 2 sets? I can only think of one set about the barrels. What if LEGO decided to not have the standard $10-$15 set with two figs, and instead made more big sets? To me, there are no scenes in the story of this film that would make sense for only two figs. Every scene that lends itself well as a set would have at least three or four figs, and I keep forgetting about the Necromancer scenes, which will need at least one decent sized set. My predictions: Battle of Esgaroth - Smaug's attack on Laketown. Even though we already have one Laketown set, this could be a more substantial part of the city. Includes Bard, possibly some of the dwarves, maybe Bain, and Smaug as a large molded creature. $150-$180 Fortress of Dol Guldur - the White Council's attack on the old fortress. Includes Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, Saruman and the Necromancer. Perhaps some more spiders depending on what happens in the film. I suspect a set based on this would have lots of functions for magic abilities and stuff. $100-$120 Ambush in the Forest - Entrance to Thranduil's halls, depicts the scene where Azog and his orcs attack the elves and dwarves. Inside has Thranduil's throne room and a small interrogation area for Narzug. Includes Thranduil, Tauriel, Azog, Narzug, and two elf guards. $75 Laketown Chase - official set $50 Beorn's House - obvious, it's Beorn's house. Includes Beorn (both man and bear forms), Bilbo, and a few of the dwarves. $35-$40 And there you go, five sets that easily cover all the major sequences and characters of the new film. Sure, we wouldn't get all the dwarves, but I wouldn't expect that. And the reason I didn't include Legolas is because we already got him. Tauriel does need new hair, however. You forgot Radagast for the Dol Guldur set as he is bound to play into it judging by the trailer. Quote

And I guess the Laketown set counts, there is a big barrel in the boat, so yeah. Quote

Alcarin Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Btw when I speak of Minas Tirith Thats what I am talking about... http://geekologie.com/2011/07/now-thats-a-playset-huge-lotr-lego-build.php ok even if its 50% smaller that would be ok... Make it a 1000$ or even 1500$ and id buy it lol Quote

Minas Tirith will be done, but not to the standards of the greatest MOCers out there. It will be a similar size to Helm's Deep. Quote

If Minas Tirith (as a whole) is done in the size of Helm's Deep that might be the biggest disappointment for a long long time of LTOR and LEGO fans alike. Minas Tirith if done as whole must get close to Millenium Falcon and Taj Mahal number of pieces and close to Death Star cost with a good number of 10-14 figures. anything below that for a WHOLE citadel/city would be disappointment. Unless they split it in 3 pieces or 2. Courtyard + white tower and hall of Kings and Gate and grond and some wall and tower with catapults. Quote
wesker Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I have no problems with a scaled down Minas Tirith if its anything like the project on Cuusoo. http://lego.cuusoo.c...deas/view/36275 Quote
SMC Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 ^ I would be very happy with that, just to get an idea do we know how many pieces that is, how much would it cost. Quote
Gremer Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Yeah, I would prefer something like that CUUSOO set. Quote
Legomaster34 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I really hope a set like Nuju Metru's Minas Tirith is what LEGO gives us. It's not ridiculously huge with an equally huge price tag, nor is it so small that it doesn't do the city justice. A set maybe a little bigger than the recently released Orthanc set would be perfect in my opinion. Quote

Honestly, I think Nuju Metro did a fantastic job of scaling Minas Tirith down like he did. It is structured in levels, it has the gate, walls, trebuchets, citadel, rocky outcrop at the top, he even fit the statue inside. It has everything Minas Tirith needs to be Minas Tirith. And thats not mentioning the fell beast. Im actually surprised it only has 1317 supporters. Maybe everyone is expecting an official set? Quote
Lego Spy Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I prefer the CUUSOO idea because... I could afford it. -Lego Spy Quote

You seem to be the only one here who views anything less than the display at that 2011 Brickcon as a major disappointment; I personally think I'd rather have the Nuju Metru scaled-down model or even a modular design than something I would have to pay an excessive amount of money for and probably not even touch half of it. 2. None of the Millennium Falcons were even close to $1000; UCS was $500 US retail. 3. If wave 3 is going to be the last wave, I feel like TLG would probably only focus on one larger set for Minas Tirith; hence either just featuring the Citadel or a UCS model like what Nuju Metru came up with. Not to even start about how the tower looks :P But that Minas Tirith doesnt even have seven levels! How can you compromise on your beliefs! Its about ratio of its own build... It looks ''proper'' size compared to other LEGO sets... the size of the tower compared to the size of structure is correct or atleast semi correct and passable. And its higher than Orthanc which is a must ;) Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 (edited) Alcarin, your views about a Minas Tirith set seem increasingly illogical. You should be grateful if Lego makes a Minas Tirith set period; at least you'd have something to go off of in order to MOC it to your heart's content. We can't expect every official Lego model to be exactly the scale and size that we want it to be. Edited July 22, 2013 by The_Chosen_1 Quote
Moexy Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 (edited) Alcarin, your views about a Minas Tirith set seem increasingly illogical. You should be grateful if Lego makes a Minas Tirith set period; I totally agree; NujuMetru's Minas Tirith model is the most 'logical' model TLG would or could make. A €1000 model wouldn't even be something TLG would consider. The only thing I agree upon is the size of the trebuchets, but on the other hand a smaller trebuchet model wouldn't be actually possible (imao). An alternative would be a simple catapult, but that wouldn't match too well with a movie Mina's Tirith model ... I do hope TLG makes a Lorien/Caras Galadhon set (small, medium or large, maybe something like in the game) and a Fellbeast with Witch-King set. An Ithilien Ranger or Dunedain Ranger set would also be very welcome :) Edited July 22, 2013 by Moexy Quote

You don't seem to understand how cuusoo works, if lego made a set from this project, it wouldn't be a reproduction of the model shown, it would be made by lego deisgner in the standard lego style. You should give it your vote simply to show lego that we want a minas tirith set. I've made a "model" of my own, in the style of what I hope they make. 258pieces. (made with only available colors for the build) Edited July 22, 2013 by deskp Quote
Moexy Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I like your model deskp very much, far better then what's in the game, but is it not a bitt too bare on top (the tree I mean)? I really like the size of the tree, it looks like it could in reality support the building on top! I would be happy with anything Lorien/Caras Galadhon related though :) Quote

Yeah it's quite bare, I left a platform up there for minifigs, but i's easily changed/fixed with a part of half arch bricks and 2 leaf pieces. The front part of the "hut" will be changed around to use 2 white gothic pieces instead. Edited July 22, 2013 by deskp Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Nice Lorien deskp! I would buy that. And seriously? A Minas Tirith scale argument AGAIN? Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! led by mr. TLG-needs-to-meet-my-exact-demands. Quote

Fives Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Part of me fears that we won't see a Lorien set. If they make Galadriel in the new Hobbit wave, I don't really see a reason for them to make Lorien other than its a nice location. It wouldn't offer any new big name figs, and would take up space in the next LOTR wave for a possible Gondor set. Also, I think that we should no longer be allowed to discuss Minas Tirith. It's sparked negative discussion twice now, and I know it's kinda impossible to dictate what can and can't be talked about in this thread, but I think Minas Tirith is something that could be at least left on the back burner until Xmas time, when we'll likely have some sort of news for LOTR 2014. But I would really like a Lorien set, becuase I like getting every main location "filled in" in lego form, and I would want a Lorien guard (or haldir in his lorien clothes) Here is a much better look at my lorien set: Quote
