Hi people,

As part of my "re-training" i've been practising with the functional elements, driving rings, changeover catches and gears etc. Here's a image of something that started off as a test rig. It started off as a single driving ring set up and grew from there. i've taken the pneumatic tubing off (as it was a bit of a mess) so you can see the contraption. I added the pneumatics with a compressor and it all works. The compressor is not built in as yet. i'm putting the picture on now as the set up will change.

Looks interessting, not sure what it is yet, or what it does, but it does look sophisticated!

Anyhow, welcome back form your 'drak' ages!

It is interesting looking, but like was said above, what is it going to be? Btw, if you just came out of the dark ages, you have a lot of catching up to do if you want to acquire the sophisticated sets that have been released and most retired in the past 5 yrs or so, Technic has come a long way, especially in the past 3-4 years...

It's true that the last 3 years of Technic sets have been outstanding. For a long time, I maintained a passing interest in LEGO, but didn't truly believe the dark age would ever end for me. I'm sure not everyone would share my opinion, but a lot of the sets released in the late nineties and early naughties didn't look interesting at all.

Thanks for the replies. (I just notice my spelling mistake too) I just started putting pieces together using the levers. I'm actually doing ok catching up and i'm ordering new elements almost monthly, just had a delivery at the weekend and have put in my next order. A new set is certainly required asap. But having said that I did get 8052 (container truck) in 2011, I also got a Hero Factory model and some of the new elements. The return is going well.

PS: how do people post those high res pics? as you can see I had to scale down to get the small file size.

There were a few that were interesting in the late 90's and early 2000's, but nothing like what has been released in the past 3-5 years, especially with the advent of PF elements, 1 set I always wanted from 2001 was the 8466 4x4, amazing set. I rarely miss a set, unless the budget won't allow...awaiting the summer releases. Can't wait for the crane everybody has been talking about.

The 8052 is quite versatile, the main model was ingenious, but I grabbed instructions from another EB member for a telehandler. Luckily I have a few sealed 8052's so plan on building that MOC as well soon. Not sure what you mean about the pic size, I'm not quite that sophisticated but have managed to download a lot of pdf and LDD files that were large scale and it worked fine on my computer.

Welcome back to LEGO Horace !

You can post your pictures on external websites (most commonly used ones are Brickshelf and Flickr) and link them here. Remember though, they should have a maximum size of 800x600.

Brickshelf is completely free, has no limits except for the fact that what you upload MUST be about LEGO. Galleries are manually moderated so it might take some time (up to 2 days for new folders) to get them approved but deeplinking (direct link to the item you uploaded) works the moment you upload new content.

I usually upload 2 versions of all my files to my Brickshelf account; a high-res (most of the time unmodified source image from my camera) and a "low-res" (800x600) for linking on forums.

PS: your geartrain looks nice, but what exactly does it do ?

@ Horace T: If you use Flickr (which is free for the first 200 images), you can link to your newly-uploaded images IMMEDIATELY. With Flickr, you can post detailed descriptions with hyperlinks, and you can right-click on your image to select the 800x600 pixel size that Eurobricks likes! :classic:

I built it to run four functions from one m motor. It was good practice for me to learn the new bits and pieces. I had it so a compressor would raise it using four pneumatic cylinders. I need to work on linear actuators next.
