cheeze Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Hi Folk, New to the forum here and after 10+ years of it being hidden in a cupboard i dug it out and started my first build after my last kit, 8880 supercar So i started with the basic little crane after my son asked for one Version 1 Then onto version 2 And now the version i have now And the base that needs most of the work inc crawler tracks and some strength build back in Its nothing compaired to some ive seen on here, but its the first one in a good few years Quote
legomuppet9 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 This is looking good , as for the tracks, you can buy them on bricklink, or within a set (as I prefer to do as you get a load of other pieces along with it ) You may want to look at the 42006 excavator set (http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Excavator-42006, you can change the country in the top right as appropriate), or the 8043 excavator set (unfortunately discontinued, but it can be found here: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=8043-1) Both of these sets include linear actuators, which will make it easier to lift the main boom . Hope this helps Quote
cheeze Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 Cheers muppet, its all hand cranked for movement (not owning and electrics) the boom lifts good at the moment and ive tested it with a 1.5kg weight so far, but thats only on normal sewing thread I have looked at treads but i need 160 in total, but undecided if i will use the old style 3873 or the newer 57518 style, but looking for inspiration for the base, but not many going about Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Yes Jennifer's excavator does use the old style, maybe you could try putting the undercarriage from that under your crane. Quote
cheeze Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 Yes that what i was hoping, im sure it would be strong enough for what i need. just need to work out how it goes together now Quote
