Zilcho Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) This is one part of my challenge 6 and I'd like some input as it is my first serious moc I have done.(this isn't cheating, right?) My thoughts: I don't really have enough bricks to make a nice big grey wall, so I'm adding in a whole that has been hastily repaired with wood. I am going to change this so it is continuous wood as opposed to the frame work I have now. I'm also considering having a raging fire on the wood, so as to make the vignette more lively and use some of my many black bricks as charcoal. I need to finish the sides I've started at the back, so it looks like it is a big thick wall - 1 brick thick just isn't very impressive :P I might have to lower the height, as I might not have enough grey bricks to finish it. And of course I will add some minis. I will have hordes of orcs from Nocturnus waiting in front of the wall, maybe some Goblins/bats from collectible minifigures climbing the wall, also I might have some fighting on the wall between hand of corruption troops and Nocturnians. There will also be some Mitgardian dwarves, who dug the hole under the wall. Sorry if the photos are too big, I'm on my ipad and have no idea how to see the size via the photobucket app. EDIT 19th January, finished (sort of) model: All feedback and constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated :) Edited January 19, 2013 by Zilcho Quote
Maxim I Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Looks already very nice! Only suggestion is that you should change the floor of the building. Maybe if you use dark grey plates, it would break the uniformity Quote
Hyler Talliwell Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) The vines help, but maybe you could put some rounds or plates in the wall to break up all of the grey. Great start so far! Edited January 13, 2013 by Hyler Talliwell Quote
Kayne Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I agree on the darker floor interior, and also maybe some dusting on the bricks Looks good so far though! And no, posting WIP's is not cheating! Quote

Sorry but what do you mean "rounds and plates"? :S I'm not very familiar with moccing terms but do you mean 1 x 1 flat round bricks and flat tile bits? About the grey at the back: I agree it would look better with dark grey but I don't really want to take off all my work so far, and I don't really plan to display the back, it's more of a place to hide the inner framework/other stuff (like the tunnel) - and is not in any way supposed to represent a town or anything :P Quote
Zilcho Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Ok, I've almost finished this moc: I'm wondering what people think of the dark cloud summoned by the witch. (To shield the goblins from the sun) Quote
Maxim I Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 This really looks good!!!! Also very effective wooden structure ! About the cloud, I firstly thought it was a part of the wall... Maybe if you put the witch some closer? But then again you have to pay attention of not covering the hole in the picture.. Quote
Zilcho Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 New pictures, I'd really like some feedback, on the dark cloud especially. Quote
Maxim I Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 If you have some trans clear 1x1 or 1x2 plates left, maybe you can incorporate them with the smoke. It would break it's uniformity and would accentuate it better. Also it would look then like the smoke is vanishing in the air after a while Quote
Hyler Talliwell Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 (edited) Hmmm, first of all, the wall looks great now. The haphazard look of the wooden part works perfectly. Now, do you have any more goblins? I think the moc would look much better with many more evildoers (who happen to look a lot like some of my loyal Nocturnians) on the outside. Also, do you plan on this being the last, middle, or first of the three or more builds?Just remember that challenge 6 requires a story. Great job so far though! Also, I would like to see a bit more variation in ground height. a few more plates creating an elevation rise could help out a lot. Don't disperse the grass as randomly, try to put them in more of a few clumps, with many barren patches. And lastly (unless I think of something else) do you have the parts to build some type of small siege engine, such a s a battering ram? It could make the scene if done well, and take up some needed space. Edited January 19, 2013 by Hyler Talliwell Quote

Also it would look then like the smoke is vanishing in the air after a while I tried but I don't really have enough to make it look good. I am going to get rid of the dark cloud, it's unnecessary and looks silly. Hmmm, first of all, the wall looks great now. The haphazard look of the wooden part works perfectly. This is the first of the 3 builds, I've finished the second one and will start the final one later this month. I've added some more plates, though I'm not sure if they look good, I'll get some photos next weekend. I'll try building a siege engine, though I doubt it will be very good. Quote
Balthasar Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Great job on improving that wall texture. I agree with hyler that clumping the grass would an improvement as well. Quote
