Hi all

I am Bpbill and I have recently returned to Lego due to my two small children starting to collect Lego City sets.

When I was a child my father used to buy me sets regularly and I had quite a collection, but sadly due to various circumstances all those pieces are lost to me so as a family we are starting from scratch again when getting pieces. The kids are enjoying their Lego sets and some are made, remade and played with quite regularly, so I'm trying to start my own small! (yeah right) collection to run alongside their sets allowing me to build more sculptural type models. So my question is, and I need to ask here as I can't post in the buying forum due to being too new :p

How do people source standard bricks such as 2x4, 2x6, 2x8 etc and plates? I have just bought some from Bricklink (for a project I am starting now) but wondered if there was a better way to build a collection of those types of pieces for future projects?

Hi bpbill, and welcome to Eurobricks!

I'm a great fan of Bricklink & there are some great UK sellers; if you shop around you can get some great prices, especially for larger orders.

You can always try Lego's 'pick a brick' (link here); they tend to be expensive for basic bricks (2x4's etc) but are quite often well-priced for plates. At the moment they're giving free postage for any orders above £50, which might be worth considering. Alternatively, have you seen the packs that Lego do of more 'basic' parts - try doing a search in Amazon for 'Lego basic'

Cheers, Robin :classic:

Hmm looked at pick a brick must say it did seem a bit pricey to me.

I'll stick with Bricklink for the pieces I need now and keep a look out for anyone selling their Lego cheaply :)

Hi Bpbill, and welcome from another UK member.

You might want to try car boot sales as that's where I've managed to get some good bargains, just remember to give the bricks a scrub before using ;-). Ebay is also a good source of bricks, but you then need to factor in the postage costs just like Lego's online PaB and Bricklink. On a separate note have a look at the Brickish Association website, (http://www.brickish.org). You might find it helpful.

Thanks for that, Brickish was a new one on me and I hadn't considered car boot sales as they are generally places I tend to steer well clear of,, guess I will have to have a change of heart.
