I was thinking of building a mountain MOC structure, about 8 x 16 or perhaps even bigger. I plan to have a building on the top of the mountain, such as a palace or a guardhouse.

I think this recently posted MOC by another member on Eurobricks is similar to what I want to build: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=77741.

I was wondering what are some good techniques for building a LEGO mountain. Specifically:

1. What color bricks should I use?

2. What types of bricks should I use? (size, slanted or not, any special bricks)

3. What should I use as the base? (baseplate? large flat LEGO piece? Nothing?)

It would be best to have the LEGO mountain as realistic as possible.

THanks.

Well the best idea is to use lots of angles slopes, like the weathertop moc, and throw in some cheese slopes to make it look nicer. if you want a less steep hill then use a few 2 x 2 angled bricks but mostly layer normal bricks to create an incline.

The top colours to use would be any grey and maybe some brown in the mix, but not too much. To add detail to the cliff face use green bricks (dark, lime or whatever) or green plant bricks.

For the base, I don't moc much but, I'd use a baseplate and build on that, leaving the middle hollow.

It'll probably be a mountain like the one in the weathertop MOC. I might make it a Forest Mountain instead.

The only building I plan to have on the mountain is the palace/guardhouse structure at the very top. I could build smaller houses on the mountain itself, but that is not a priority right now.

In the last Issues of Hispabrick Magazin is an article about hills and mountains. Maybe this helps You. I also remember an Issue of the Railbricks Magazin with an article about mountains. These magazines are free for dounload.

Have you tired using the digital program LDD to create what you are thinking of?

You don't need real bricks for that. Could help you plan out your creation.
