brickchic Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Hi! I've just put my first post up in the newbie forum http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...?showtopic=7774. There's a link to some photos of my town and there's more to come soon. I'm hoping to get some good feedback and ideas from you guys. I think I need to build a bigger Lego table (maybe I need a huge shed in the yard too) to accomodate all the stuff I want to build. I'm just about done with building vintage sets and want to start concentrating on improving my layout, streetscaping, MOCs and wiring up my city with 12v lights etc. Any feedback or ideas would be appreciated! Cheers, Brickchic Australia Quote
lone_buffalo Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 *y* nice *y* Not to be rude, but I think you need a better layout. Besides that your moc is an amazingly amazing. I like it. Quote
brickchic Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Agreed - I need a better layout. Originally I had a smaller layout with a smaller table. Then the table was extended and the town grew haphazardly. I've run out of space to do a bigger table. Maybe I can rework my existing one, though it gets a bit restrictive trying to fit on the track so it doesn't overlap the roads and so on. Any particular suggestions? Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 You are very lucky to have so many great old sets and the old 80s style baseplates! :-) It is a shame you are limited by the table :-( Personally I would move the table into one bigger square shape into a corner of your room. Then you could build a real centre to you city :-) But maybe this is not possible, hard to tell from the photos. I think maybe you need a huge shed in the yard too. If you want ideas on what you could make check out this link. I think the more MOCs the better, do you have many normal blocks to pay around with? One idea I would have is to make a mountain side against the wall to which the railway bridge ends. At the end of the railway line (at the wall) I would then make the start of a tunnel. Of course the tunnel would just be for show as it really doesn't go anywhere but you dont have to tell your legomen this... Quote
brickchic Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 Personally I would move the table into one bigger square shape into a corner of your room. The table was custom built to the shape of the room. I could re-model the table but it would be an awful lot of stuffing around :-/ . One thing I like about the way it is is it's shallowness - it's easy to reach everything being in a big U shape. The shed may come one day... If you want ideas on what you could make check out this link. Yes - these are all good ideas. I might dabble in some of them. do you have many normal blocks to pay around with? I have a lot of spare bricks, but hardly any brown/tan/grey/green to use for a mountain. I had the mountain idea already, as well as a subterranean section under the "upper level" which I haven't built yet. I am limited by lack of suitable colours though. One other thing I wanted to do was to put some printed paper on the wall behind the town - like a roll of wrapping paper with blue sky and clouds design - so it looks good in photos. I haven't been able to track down any such paper yet though. Thanks for your suggestions! :-) Quote
SavaTheAggie Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I'm afraid I don't have an actual train layout, I just build trains. However, my lack of experience aside, I would suggest that if you don't have any more room (at the moment) to go out, go up. Build elevated tracks and roads over the existing ones, build some high-rise buildings, go underground. Mountains are nice, but they take up a lot of real estate (and bricks) to make them look good, IMO. --Tony Quote
