Moz Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I too have a set, they're really good for the front wheels of truck models that use the 62.4 x 20 wheels for load. It's one of those things that only truck geeks will notice, and only AFOLs will really appreciate. Makes me wish I had bought another couple of 5571's when I had the chance. But now that we have unimog wheels the game has changed... Quote
Hopey Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 3D printing is a lot more expensive than just buying the rare part off of Bricklink. At the moment it is, but that might not last. There was a time when it was cheaper to buy second-hand CDs than to buy blank CDs onto which to burn copies... Quote

Have to agree, the time will come when this is common place, i think its a good while off yet though, sure you can print with off the shelf colours gut getting the exact match that would be needed colour and finish wise is not right round the corner, not at hobby rates anyway. If you like the wheel and think you could use it then I would say keep it and show off a finished MOC once you are happy, else sell them on and get something that is more in keeping with the things you like to make, either way good luck Quote
Jimny J Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 In comparison to their smaller version, they are a much nicer wheel and tyre combo. The tyre material seems a little softer and there is a noticeable difference between where the tyre tread changes to sidewall, as a result they are very life like in appearance. Its just a shame there are not more available. Ive had a few ideas for some builds using them. firstly when paired with a pair of the 62.2 x20s they look too be good for a small urban tractor with non mud tyres. Such as the smaller JCB's and similar. Quote
skppo Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 3D printing is a lot more expensive than just buying the rare part off of Bricklink. It depends on the quality of the print. simple parts (6L thin liftarm in yellow) could be easily printed with todays prices, though the might not fit as well as real parts. The speed that the price of 3D printing has gone down makes me really exited for future. I, as a purist, wouldn't use them for lego but for other projects maybe. Quote
Ralph Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I can think of four choices for you (there may be more): (1) Make a nerd's day by selling these onwards at inflated prices. (2) Ruin a nerd's day by keeping them and building some MOC of your own. (3) Really make a nerd's day by selling them onwards at just a little more than you paid for them. (4) Really ruin a nerd's day by giving them to a kid who won't know why they're special, and will just build crazy trikes with no symmetry and poor colour choices. I like option 4 myself. YMMV I love this, very nice.... Quote
