Jimny J Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I recently purchased a small box of Technic bits n bob's from a local carboot sale, amongst the parts is a matching set of 6 wheels. They look exactly the same as the 62.4 x 20s truck wheels, but slightly larger at 68.8 x 24s. Any ideas what they came off of? Cant seem to find them listed anywhere. Quote
efferman Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 hold this tires, they are from the legendary 5571 black cat truck. they are very expensive Quote
Meatman Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Do they have tires on them or just wheels? Quote

legomuppet9 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 These wheels only ever appeared in two sets, 5571 and 5563, both were model team sets. Quote
shadowhearth Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 hold this tires, they are from the legendary 5571 black cat truck. they are very expensive wow, i completely forgot about that set. what a beauty! let me guess, it sells for 5 million dollars plus liver and left leg? Quote

Meatman Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Average used price for just the wheel is around $15 Used Tires Average around $8.50 each. These wheels only ever appeared in two sets, 5571 and 5563, both were model team sets. Didn't the 5563 have slightly different wheels? I think the tires were the same though. Quote
Jimny J Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 I think I just had a crisis... Quote
Meatman Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I think I just had a crisis... LOL, what is that? You have about $150 worth of wheels? Quote
Jimny J Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Well I was planning too build them into something, but Im not sure now. Quote
andythenorth Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) Well I was planning too build them into something, but Im not sure now. I can think of four choices for you (there may be more): (1) Make a nerd's day by selling these onwards at inflated prices. (2) Ruin a nerd's day by keeping them and building some MOC of your own. (3) Really make a nerd's day by selling them onwards at just a little more than you paid for them. (4) Really ruin a nerd's day by giving them to a kid who won't know why they're special, and will just build crazy trikes with no symmetry and poor colour choices. I like option 4 myself. YMMV Edited December 31, 2012 by andythenorth Quote
Jimny J Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 (edited) Must admit Im thinking they could easily fund my ever increasing need for more interesting parts too fiddle with. The creative juices are flowing! Possible second set of Unimog wheels, portals and gearbox parts to name a few. Im wondering if instead of trying to sell them myself that it may be worth contacting a few online sellers and seeing if they would interested in some sort of like for like trade. What do you mean by like for like? You are never going to see wheels like this at a low price again. I recommend... Hold on a second, do you have 6 wheels, or 10? The Black Cat truck has 10 of these wheels, and the other set has six. Regardless, you should look into making a three axle mobile crane, kinda like Jennifer Clark's legendary Demag AC50 model. Quote
efferman Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 That is not correct. 5571 has six, the rally van has four wheels with this size Quote

I really really hate suggestion number 4.  I'm fairly sure you guys are trolling, but seriously, would you give your kid the keys to your vintage Mustang? I didn't think so, but that's kind of what you are suggesting, at least to us true fans. Jimny J, do not listen to these goofballs. I currently don't have any stuff to trade, but if that's you aim, take it to the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, when you get enough posts. Or, you could sit on them for a while, or build something cool with them. That is not correct. 5571 has six, the rally van has four wheels with this size Oops, I goofed on this. Sorry. Quote
Jimny J Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 Just so people don't think Im trolling.. Quote
DLuders Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 @ Jimmy J: Hold onto those wheels and tires -- they're like money in the bank. They will only increase in value over time. Quote
Tkavan01 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Not trolling they deserve to be played with, as do all Legos, not hidden away in some drawer of a collectors house with a half million other bricks to be bragged about and used once a decade or so. Quote
Bricksonwheels Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 You should cherrish them, and above all, use them, that is their purpose. I have used them in one of my latest builds: Quote
Front Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Use them, keep them, maybe sell one day :-) Quote
andythenorth Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Slightly off-topic for the thread...how would this play out if 3D printing was more commonly available? People are already printing Lego-compatible parts. Printing plastics is well established, printing rubber tyre compounds will likely happen. Putting aside copyright / patent issues, replicating rare parts might become trivially easy to do. But...there are lots of people who value genuine TLG parts - so the value of rare parts will stay high? Quote
DLuders Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 3D printing is a lot more expensive than just buying the rare part off of Bricklink. Quote
