I just got the nxt 2.0 for Christmas...made all working/functional pieces for a slot machine I want to program...but the GUI from the disk in the package lags on my newly-restarted laptop with 100gb of ram left over with barely 1% used...can someone help me out(even to an easy to use text-programming (I've done some python programming, though it ruined my laptop due to its over use of ram)

100gb of ram seems quite unlikely..

However, you can use BricxCC (free - c programming), LeJOS (free - java) or RobotC (30dollar - c programming). However the NXT-G is very easy to use. Textprogamming already a bit more difficult.

I guess you mean free HD space and not RAM? anyway for me the best solution is NXC and you can code using the excellent BricxCC editor http://bricxcc.sourceforge.net/ best bit is its all free and you dont even need to change the firmware on the NXT meaning you can still play about with GUI from the LEGO CD if you need to, have fun

Newly restarted laptop? Are you sure all drivers (motherboard and video) are installed? (Their newest updates from the manufacturers' websites, of course)

Yes there is 100gb of ram(I've custom built alot of my laptop to work with better and it is all fully updated...)...and I think I'll try NXC...looks interesting

100gb of ram is server grade. What model laptop???

Sorry, no laptops have 100GB of RAM, and not only doesn't that make sense, but python 'ruining' a laptop from 'overuse' (???) of RAM makes even less sense.

I also got a NXT 2 at Christmas, and have been trying out the different programming languages; I have been programming other languages for years. Robot-C seems easiest for beginners who want to advance beyond the Lego GUI.

I agree with fred67, are you confusing RAM and hard drive space? If your laptop is struggling you may need to uninstall some stuff (antivirus programs are the worst culprits in my experience!), or just reboot it if you haven't done for a while, that can often free up unavailable RAM.

Well,I guess it is not really a laptop any more...it is more of a desktop hooked up to a laptop screen...but I just call it a laptop. And python(I recently learned) it had download improperly and was leaving "bits and pieces" around whenever it executed python and at some point it was executing a file from some download I did and made a huge fill in...but it is fixed now and I still cannot figure out NXC(how/what to download and how to put it on the lego brick...I looked at the walkthrough .png file thingy on the site but got lost...)
