Mr Tordenskjold, have you see the What's in the name... thread?

This thread pretty has the same concept as this one, so maybe the two should be merged. However, there is one thing I'd like to clear up first...

Where did you get the names for these sets? I'm not sure what you mean by "I was looking around on TLC " - you mean www.lego.com?

Yep... a few of those names are first nature to me.

I remember getting the catalogues from both England and South Africa during the 90's and seeing the different names for the various sets!

In many cases I grew up using the 2nd name rather than what most seem to consider the official name of many of the sets.

The Black Seas Barracuda was always known to me as The Dark Shark but in the case of the Clipper, I used to call it just that rather than The Sea Hawk.

Imperial Trading Post was always Port Royal to me and The Imperial Flagship - The Sea Lion. These names just seemed so much more British and with character. But then in some cases the two different catalogues agree on the same name... it just never made any sense...

That's interesting, when I type in "6277" I get the following message:

We did not find results for: 6277Try the suggestions below or type a new query.

Is it possible you could do a search then copy & paste the link of the search results?

PORT FENZANCE

Set #: 6277

Please describe the piece(s)*

Parts Description should include color, studs, length x width (example: 2x4), function, building instruction

that is all i get on that set. its only on the newer sets i can get upp replacment parts. the legend BSB have some parts that can be replaced if lost

Hmmm, Phes, maybe you mistyped it into the browser.

Anyway, I think that, (but am not to sure about it), Fenzance is an Italian, but I'm in no way sure as I know virtually nothing about Italy.

I meant the hyperlink up in the address bar. Do you know what I mean by that?

I will post an image if you do not.

I copy and pasted 6277 so it was identical. Mr Norrington, did you successfully find the information that Mr Tordenskjold did?

Sorry mr Pfes. you have to select your age and press continue to get to that page.

and there you choose "lost a part" and in the field below you can type in the set number.

Now I get what you mean!

Yes, you're correct. But its beyond me why the Imperial Trading Post would be called Port Fenzance. I know in the UK and Australia it was called Port Royale but never I have seen it called "Port Fenzance"

could it be a sort if working title?? i saw that SES just had the name battleship 2 so perhaps the names are old working titles, that was changed when they was sendt out to the shops? or they could also been given new names to fit the country they was sold in..

Battleship 2? That's strange, if I type in 6286 it says Dark Shark II...

The armada flagship is called Spaniard ship, the Red Beard Runner is called pirate battle ship...

Eldorado fortress is governors fort Sabre... Are these the British names perhaps?

sorry my mistake. didnt read right :-$ i tried to do the searches in both the englisch the german and the french page and the same names came up. but when they make the page they could have used some english names because they were english or something like that.

Mr Phes

Well I'm gonna be pulling down all my old catalogues out of storage soonish and when I do I will get an idea of what sets I bought in England and which ones I bought in South Africa and get a comparison in terms of the names...

I have a feeling that in South Africa the catalogue names were the same as that used in say the US or Australia as though SA imported lego, they have never been manufactured in South Africa and there is no offices etc here - it's the anti-legoland >:-( but basically I've always felt that the English catalogues are the ones with the real alternative names as many of the model descriptions have a more British ring to them... Port Royal, The Sea Lion etc...

I can tell you that the Australian catalogues will have the same name as the English catalogues because I remember growing up with entirely different names to the ones used online today (I.e. The American names) and sometimes I still refer to a set by its UK/Australian name out of habit.

If you have a camera or scanner it would be good to get images of the Pirate catalogue pages so we can put them in our Great Library.

Mr Phes

I unfortunately don't possess a scanner, struggling in the technology department because I don't actually have a home either in England or in SA and thus don't have anything much in the way of possesions. I spend too much time Island Hoping chasing pirates. lol

Will give you a readout on possible alternative set names when I finally get to my stored stuff but I hear you on the American name situation... A lot of these common place names seem quite alien to me.

Yes, a list is quite fine. I only suggested to take images to save you some writing, but if you're happy to do that then go right ahead! I can't wait to see your lists!
