Hopey Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 So a few weeks ago I picked up a 7707 "Striking Venom" second hand on ebay for £11 including postage as a present for my kids, even though I'd never heard of the set (or even the theme) before. As I was helpling them build it, I realised how many technic parts it contained, many of them I think could be quite useful for MOCs. Highlights include: x8,x8,x8,x6 (somehow I didn't have any of these) x16,x4 +x8,x4(!) , along with a bunch of connectors, axles, etc. I struck a deal with them that they could play with it for a couple of weeks, after which they could keep the robots and I would strip it down for the parts I wanted. I've been doing this tonight, which prompted me to wonder (and ask): What system sets (is this the right term for non-technic?) have you folks bought for the technic parts they contain? Quote
cgarison Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Right now, I have my eyes on a pair of 42007 Motocross Bike for wheels, tires and (some bonus) 40T gears. but with a price of $40.00 USD, I am thinking twice and double checking bricklink for wheel and tire prices. $80.00 is a lot of cash to drop just to get four wheels and tires. Saberwing40k Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Well, a lot of the big Exo-Force sets contain an alarming number of parts, particularly 8108 Mobile Devastator, which has the 4 big wheels, and lots of studded beams, and 7721. In addition, a lot of the really big Star Wars sets have lots of studded beams as well. In addition, I have broken up several other sets for wheels or tracks. (like 7706 ,which has 4 new rubber tracks.) Quote

Right, but that's a technic set, which kind of misses the point. Most technic sets have a lot of technic parts :) Quote
1974 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 There's also a good bunch in Power Miners sets. Those can be found cheaply secondhand now Quote
z3_2drive Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) I once got the star wars battle droid carrier: it had plenty of studded liftarms and gear racks also for New Years a while ago I got the 8157 formula one very large, beautiful set with plenty of system and technic parts like axles, black wishbones/hubs, a u joint for steering and plenty of studded liftarms  - I spent the next year making changes to look like the first formula 1 racers, and the latest ones at the time and about expensive wheels, I just bought a set of four wheels from the 8448 super street sensation for $15 each! along with some other parts for a total bricklink order of $120+ wheels- Edited December 28, 2012 by z3_2drive Quote
legomuppet9 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 I bought the 2506 skull truck for around £10 and got big wheels hard springs and lots of other technic pieces. It was a bargain! Quote
Splat Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) I bought a copy of the 8996 Bionicle Skopio XV-1 which is basically all Technic parts. 8996 Bionicle Skopio XV-1 Inventory This set gave me a lot of red panels and another 96 treads. While this isn't a 'Technic' set (in my definition), I suppose that it isn't a system set either. As mentioned above, some of the larger (UCS) Star Wars sets have a lot of Technic beams, liftarms, and even gears. For example, the 10212 Star Wars Imperial Shuttle: 10212 Star Wars Imperial Shuttle Inventory Edited April 9, 2013 by Splat Quote
