Jeroen Ottens Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 (edited) Hi, I would like to present to you my latest MOC. A 1:24 scale model of the Russian fighter Sukhoi SU-37. It is one of the most agile planes in the world due to its thrust vector system. With this system the nozzles of the engines can be rotated to help the flight control surfaces to steer the plane. It leads to phenomenal manoeuvres, like the cobra where the plane stands upright on its tail while flying forward. My model features, besides the vector thurst control nozzles and moveable flight control surfaces also electrically controlled landing gear, landing gear bay doors, airbrake and canopy. The hispabrick magazine has been so kind to publish a more detailed article on this plane, so for more details you can download their magazine: http://www.hispabric...ck-magazine-015 On my flickrpage you can find a video that shows the functionality: http://www.flickr.co...ens/8278405247/ [edit: updated the photo] Leg godt, Jeroen Ottens Edited December 17, 2012 by Jeroen Ottens Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Really nice Sukhoi! I like the retractable landing gear and the functional gear doors. The control mixer used on the elevons is clever as well. It's always nice to see another Technic aircraft built. Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 One word for your Sukhoi    Quote
D3K Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 That is spectacular, what the 9394 should have looked like! You really managed to capture some of the defining features and aesthetics of this absolutely magnificent piece of aeronautical engineering! Quote
hrontos Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 This model is simply amazing. I read the Hispabrick article with pleasure to find out more. Well done with the realistic functions and proportions. The shape and design got me. Thank you. Quote
Jetro Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 A great model and an interesting article. Thanks! Quote
car_mp Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Thanks a lot for your collaboration. Working with you have been a pleasure. Your creation is fantastic. Quote
jantjeuh Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Very impressive model, it looks sleek yet deadly. Lovely colour as well. Quote
Carsten Svendsen Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 That model looks awesome and very detailed. Congrats on the fine work :) Quote
captainmib Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Very nice to see another airplane builder. You did a good job! Can you please post some more pictures? Building a plane myself; like to have some ideas for wing connection and stuff... Quote

See my wing: http://www.brickshel...y.cgi?i=5501140 Simple construction, only 2 studs thick and low-weight. By using this method you can have any angle on the wing you desire. I know it's not as awesome as OP's airplane wings, but that's not my objective. Edited December 19, 2012 by Carsten Svendsen Quote
Kierna Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 AWesome plane, I read about it in hipsabrick. Yellow Russian fighter planes remind me of Command and Conquer: Red alert Quote
Paul202 Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 That is the best leog plane I have ever seen. Ever. Quote
Jeroen Ottens Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 That is the best leog plane I have ever seen. Ever. Have you ever seen my F14A Tomcat? Flying at high speed Very nice to see another airplane builder. You did a good job! Can you please post some more pictures? Building a plane myself; like to have some ideas for wing connection and stuff... On my Flickr account you can find also pictures from my Tomcat. That one has wings that are 1 stud thick with pneumatic actuated front & aft flaps, brakes & swingwing function. I hope that helps. More pictures can be found in the hispabrick article. Including some details on the construction & functionality. If there are particular details you want a photo of, just let me know. Quote
captainmib Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Jeroen: You mentioned in the article the flightcontrols and how they work, but where is the actual control of it? Did you managed to put it inside the cockpit or is it somewhere in the back of the plane? This build inspires me a lot to go along with my own. Struggling and starting over at the moment. There are not enough cool technic planes Quote
D3K Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 In case any of you don't know what a (Pugachev's) Cobra maneuver is; Quote

Did you managed to put it inside the cockpit or is it somewhere in the back of the plane? This build inspires me a lot to go along with my own. Struggling and starting over at the moment. There are not enough cool technic planes The controls are one of the compromises I made. There are two vertical axles right behind the cockpit that control roll/yaw and pitch. I just couldn't get the signals to the cockpit to make a proper joystick. The flaps on the main wings are controlled with little levers in the wings (The internals of the plane were so crowded that I also couldn't get these levers connected to each other ) As I also wrote in the Hispabrick article, this plane has very little internal space. It is almost the same size as my Tomcat, but it has much, much less functions inside, while it is more dense packed (the big advantage of studless building ) Quote
Burf2000 Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Nice work, I wondered who built this. Quote
Lakop Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Excellent! I just watched the video. Love the landing gear and the thruster movements. I've always struggled to build aircraft with my lego but after seeing the new helicopter and now this i'll be having a go soon. Quote
