Optimax X Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Yeah, finallly, my lego parcel came today with all 4 new tiny turbos and all 4 new small creator "podless" x-pods Firstly, the tiny turbos. The tiny turbo 3 collection is probably the best here, simple designs, but no new peices: Terrain Crusher: This is quite a big and chunky design, you really notice it when you have it in your hand, and i really like the red/white color scheme, very eye catching, all though not the first time it's been used, it was used on RX-sprinter, i belive, 2 collections back. Nice touches on this tiny turbo is the lego racers sponser on the rear wing, all though, again, used on RX-sprinter, it's a very fun cute design as well, dispite it's bulkiness. Bad things, i found it very hard to put the quite small sticker on the front of the "air intake" on the roof, and the white side bar peices have no purpose it seems, and get in the way at the start of the build when you are making the chassis. I would not ever think a monster truck model would look so cute till now. Raceway rider: Probably my favorite tiny turbo of the collection at the moment, the light green and white color scheme is very striking and bright when you look at it, the car looks impressive without the stickers, but when you put the stickers on it becomes even more so. Like the terrain crusher, it has some very cute decals and sponsers like " x fuel" Another air intake on this tiny turbo, but i feal that this one works really well, and you don't have to mess about struggeling puting a sticker onfront of the air intake/s It really sets of this car as being a racer, and i abslolutly love the massive spoiller on the back, half showing the "engine". I love it so much as it is very remeniciant of the formula one car, with the spoiler on the back. Joint first with Night driver on being the longest tiny turbo. Night driver: a super cool tiny turbo set off in "carbon fibre" black and silver, with an emphasise on the black. I really like this one, i have no faults with it as yet, all though the front is very agrresive, but i like the way how it covers the engine a little, wether that was supposed to be or not, remains a mystery. The 2nd only tiny turbo with the two roof design, the first being Tuner X, but this two roof design is diffrent from Tuner X's which i love. The stickers were quite easy to stick on on this one, which is and added bonus to the cars cool design, but a couple under the front roof peal of quite easily, so you need to force them down for quite a while before they stop doing this. Overall, i like Night driver, but this is the only one in this years collection that does not have the cute racing decals. Rally runner: Another great design from this years tiny turbo's. Another green car, but this time it's more a "pea" green shade than the light green shade on raceway rider. Disapointed by the front nose is not one peice as the picture elude to, and the hole in the roof, also not shown in the pictures, and i don't get the quite weedy spoiler at the back of the car which is very low down. I like the stripe stickers on one side of the roof, and the open engine is also very cool, a sum-up on this car is, it's not as you see in the pictures. Overall sum-up of the tiny turbo 3 collection. Very good collection, you really need to get all 4 as they look very nice as a group, very nice designs, all completly diffrent from each other, and not only do you save money, it's only a patch over Quote
Holodoc Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 My dad wants the computer now, so i'll do the creator sets in a bit. Man, push away your father - I am waiting for those podless X-pods (brilliant transscription!) *sad* Maybe you had better spent your money on a new computer than on new bricks ;-) (I guess i will be boooed for that...) xenologer Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Thanks for the review. I also have all of them as of yesterday(been buying them gradually)... and my impression is that... they are slightly overpriced. at 5$USD compared to 4$ of past years. Also, they are using 'simpler' bricks (nothing too new or custom) however are also using clever design to make them look good. (for example, the Terrain Crusher looks incredibly massive, but it is using big 'classic' system bricks for bulk and in fact has the 2nd lowest part count) In other words... this year the sets are expensive because the designers managed to be clever and make things look cool, but you really don't get too many bricks for the money. If they had used the nice smooth wide tyres instead of these ugly 'hotwheels' tyres I wouldnt mind the price so much.... at least those wheels are re-usable for other themes. Anyway, they are really good looking, but I'm not too excited about the prospect as parts-packs. Sure, each one has maybe 1 or 2 parts that are nice to have, but nothing in comparison to last year's TunerX with 8black 3*1slopes, and 6 yellow 1*1wedges, etc... Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Nice reveiw. Sounds quite good. I won't miss out on these. -ZotS Quote
dillthepill Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Good review. Are you gonna post pics? X-D Quote
Optimax X Posted January 18, 2007 Author Posted January 18, 2007 Good review. Are you gonna post pics? X-D Maybe, a lesson in digital camara working might be wise first though! I'll try. Thanks for the comments guys, because this is a school morning, i don't really have time to do the creators, so i'll do them tonight. Quote
Brainbox Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 The tiny turbo 3 collection is probably the best here The odd thing is, Lego has called this the Tiny Turbo 3 Collection, despite the fact that this is actually the fourth series of Tiny Turbos. Presumably, this is the third series to be sold as a multipack. Who knows... Quote
Optimax X Posted January 18, 2007 Author Posted January 18, 2007 I just noticed that when you brought it up, but now time for the creator sets while i have a spare min. Mini animals: This is a good set, i build the Monkey that you can build with it, the other things you can build are a bird and i think it's either a dinosaur or a fish the third model, not quite sure which. The monkey is quite a complexed build, more so than the x-pods of old, you get much more bricks, and head, leg, arm and tail articulation is an added bonus, the color scheme is very jungle like and works very well with the monkey, and i love the leaves that you can pose the monkey behind. Bad things- Can't fit model in tub in one peice. Can't built the models at the same time Mini Construction Probably the most detailed of all 4 sets in this one, you can build the main model, the digger, or a fork lift truck or an truck that can carry things (a brick) 6 classic small wheels bring back good memories, and look very cute on the models, on the main model you can spin the main body right around, and also move the arm and bucket, quite easy build, but very fun and an impressive main model is what you get at the end of it. Same problems as above. Mini flyers. Probably the biggest models in this set, but i don't think this is my favorite. I found that the helicopter model was long, and the instructions, at times were quite unclear, also the propellers (the big one) was quite hard to postition, but the model is quite good in the end, so i think the difficult build was wroth it, i had to make some alterations because the instructions were do unclear at time. and lastly, Mini robots. I love this set, very cute, like the others, i have only build the first model, but from the fun i have had with the main model, i think it will be the same with the others, both diffrent robots. The main robot has many part of articulation, the legs and feet can move independently, the arms and wings can move separatly, and the top of the waiste can move 360 degrees, so he can attack from the front and the back! The weapon is simple but affective, but the head is a bit weird, it looks like he has a dustbin covering his eyes. Overall, a nice collection, i'm sad the pods have gone, and that you can't fit the models in the canisters, but with that aside, you get loads of peices and nice, simple designs. Also, it is only 3 pounds over a tenner if you get it from S@H as a collection, saving money if you jus bought them independetly. Quote
xenologer Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Whoa! the MiniRobot main model has a waist that can twist? I did not see this at all from the box pictures. Very clever how they did it *looks at the instruction manual from newly purchaed robot pod* Ok, I thought this would be a lame robot statue but that is actually pretty cool how they designed it. Not just another copy of the same mini-robot frame from last year and the one before that... Thanks for the heads-up. ummh, well it would be nice if they could have given us some of those flat sideways hinges like last years white Robo Xpod then this guy could have some bendable elbows... missing elbows and knee joints, thats the big flaw I see here... Quote
Optimax X Posted January 18, 2007 Author Posted January 18, 2007 Yep, the waste can twist, i think it has a pin in the lower body, so when you put the top half on, it can turn. Quote
dillthepill Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Great review for the small X pods. I am getting all of these for sure. The construction set just looks so cool for it's size. That is probably my favorite. Quote
Asuka Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Thank you for this interesting and useful review. Those new creator sets are looking good! *y* Quote
dillthepill Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I got the X pods a little bit ago, and didn't feel like posting a review. But here are some pics. Enjoy. :-) Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 (edited) Figured I'd just drop photos to #8133 Rally Runner in here. No point in a new topic. ;-) (I hate putting stickers on my Lego bricks... they're just parts for mocing to me. Thank Hades the details weren't painted on.) xenologer Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Regarding the Green Rally Runner I put the extra Red round bit in the center of the cockpit - in-between the 4 studs that are below it. So far I have 3 of the notX-podsl; the monkey I'm not getting because I dont use brown bricks... I'm the most impressed by the contruction pod's main model, in fact it remains in one pieces because I can't think of a better model of my own to turn the parts into... meanwhile the Helicoptor has turned into a Jet (diff design from the official Alt) and the robot pod... just sits there because I cant figure any projects that need all those little detail bricks just yet... As far as Parts for value goes, I thought the Heli-pod was the least impressive, it is all mundane bricks... whereas the robot is full of hinges and greeblies and the construction pod has rare yellow slopes and nice wheels -odly enough, based on the shelves at Target and TRU, kids love the Heli best anyway, I guess they don't buy for parts as much as the coolness factor.... Optimax X Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 Well abit of a complaint on the red tiny turbo, you know how you are supposed to be able to get them in and out of there grages easily, i can't with the red one because it is so big and chunky, you have to almost break the model to get it out, design flaw.
