DLuders Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 (edited) Paul Boratko (a.k.a. Crowkillers) posted this of all of his MOCs shown at the Lego Kidsfest event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA last weekend: Here's a separate YouTube video of his Crowkillers Lego Technic 1:6 scale V8 Engine -- "I only had it running at 3 volts(I can run it at 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9 , and 12)": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akxmRDA8R0Q He's auctioning off one of his custom creations in January 2013 for charity. For those not familiar with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, "...the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors, and entire communities." This will be Paul's second auction to benefit that organization. His previous auction got a winning bid of USD $1,626 (1,299 Euros)! In May, he explained in this post: "I got the pleasure of meeting a young man in Pittsburgh last year at a Kidsfest who had some problems and he was extremely thrilled to see my cars in person and had his father take his picture holding one of my cars... Turns out he was a fan of my work and had seen the models online... This was an eye opening experience for me realizing that through Lego that I had made a connection with this boy and right then and there I had decided that I should try and give back...." 750ACE Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I am surprised more people are not talking about this on EB! Why is this not featured on the first page of EB? Who thinks it will sell for more or less than the Black Vampire GT charity auction? Quote
Paul Boratko Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 (edited) I am surprised more people are not talking about this on EB! Why is this not featured on the first page of EB? Who thinks it will sell for more or less than the Black Vampire GT charity auction? It's not just Eurobricks, but everyone in general... Technic isn't really recognized as Lego with the casual fans and doesn't have minifigures and just isn't as popular as regular system building... I can't even get Make-A-Wish to help promote this(Not even a tweet on twitter) and it is for their Charity... My only break was geting this featured on Wired, but that site moves so fast that things get buried easily... A few friends from different corners of the Globe have been helping me promote this... jadedomg Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I can't even get Make-A-Wish to help promote this(Not even a tweet on twitter) and it is for their Charity... I dealt with them(canada side) when I worked in a hospital and when it came to promotion they expected you do to most of it yourself as they told me was to keep the cost of overhead of running the foundation down. That said I can't see them promoting it on twitter costing them much. It is great you do this Paul, and I hope some kid gets a very nice wish fulfilled because your efforts to support this charity and the sick children who could use a little bit of hope and enjoyment. Paul Boratko Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 (edited) This is what gets me... When I had to fill out all of the paperwork for the Charity auction, there was a question that said "What participation or resources, if any, do you request from Make-A-Wish?" And I answered "Just some online promotional help"... Now if Make-A-Wish was never going to offer any regardless because they said that they don't Pick and choose favorites, then why would they even bother to ask this question in the first place..? They only seem to send out tweets when celebrities are involved in some type of fundraiser or some big corporation gives away $1,000s of dollars to charity, which is great, but what about the little poor nobodies like me...? All I wanted was a simple twitter message sent out... Edited January 30, 2013 by Paul Boratko Quote

Who thinks it will sell for more or less than the Black Vampire GT charity auction? I was just about to make this same comment. I haven't seen anything on any Lego related websites about this. Which is odd because this is excellent exposure for Lego in general. But like Paul said, there is nothing minifig related Paul, have you been in contact with any Lego websites like brickset, technicbricks, or even here? Quote
DLuders Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 On TechnicBRICKS, Conchas has a nice promotion for the charity auction (which ends tomorrow and is currently at USD $805 and 29 bids): Quote
Meatman Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Well it's nice to see at least Technicbricks has something about it. I am a little stunned that this auction ends in one day and no Lego related sites have mentioned anything about it. Quote
DLuders Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 Hey, $805 is a REAL NICE donation to a charity (considering that the model uses no more than $300 worth of parts). Last year's $1,626 final bid was a bit "over the top", so maybe it's unrealistic to expect a bid in that stratosphere again. Quote
Paul Boratko Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Hey, $805 is a REAL NICE donation to a charity (considering that the model uses no more than $300 worth of parts). Last year's $1,626 final bid was a bit "over the top", so maybe it's unrealistic to expect a bid in that stratosphere again. 5 of those parts are Black 19L flex axles which are near impossible to find and the wheels cost me $50 to get chromed and tinted, plus there are 20+ Black bushings(averaging $1+ a pop) and I don't know how many 3L black friction pins(which are around .20 each now) It would be impossible for the average guy to start from scratch and build this is exact model for under $300... Well it's nice to see at least Technicbricks has something about it. I am a little stunned that this auction ends in one day and no Lego related sites have mentioned anything about it. I am going to be very honest, I am disapointed with the 3 main corporations that are gaining exposure from this charity auction as they have not supported me with this... Quote
DLuders Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 @ Paul Boratko: Ooh, I didn't realize that some of those parts were so expensive -- my apologies. You never know -- there could be a last-minute surge of bidding tomorrow (when the auction ends) -- there is definitely interest in your model among certain Technic AFOLs! No matter how it ends up, you should be thanked for your generosity and consideration to the "Make-A-Wish" Foundation kids. Quote
DLuders Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 WIth 9 hours to go in the eBay Charity Auction, there are now 33 bids and the top bid is USD $915. Maybe it will break the USD $1,000 threshold.... Quote
