simonwillems Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Has anybody bought the new 7944 Hovercraft yet? If you did can you please tell me how the black base is constructed, is it one big piece or brick made? I saw the set in the toystore today and it looked like one piece... Thanks. Quote

Jer Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I regret to say it is one piece. And ugly and otherwise useless piece too. Quote
xenologer Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 When I saw the store display, it looked to me like the bottom was like a giant square donut piece; where at least the middle has separate plate pieces. Can you confirm if thats how it really works? Quote
simonwillems Posted January 12, 2007 Author Posted January 12, 2007 I regret to say it is one piece. And ugly and otherwise useless piece too. I won't be buying it then I'm afraid, I was hoping it would have been made with the pieces of the 8824 Technic hovercraft from the nineties. :'-( Quote

Zaktan of the Shadows Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Its one peice because of the age range they are looking for. -ZotS Quote
simonwillems Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 Found the evidence on brickshelf today, in the inventory of the set. disapointment..... :-( sorry to you Hobbes for the HUGE image.... Quote
xenologer Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Thanks for the info. *looks at inventory pics* I guess it'd be ok to buy it if you plan on always having at least one hovercraft (possibly mod a military one) on your shelf at all times... since I dont see what else that piece is ever going to be used for. Some interesting parts in there, Ive got my eye on the: 6 oldschool airplane landing gear (enough for 2 planes!) 2 large 3blade propellors (time to make an osprey-like aircraft?) the 2 technic slider pistons (whew, now i dont have to buy bionicles to get these) and the large train cockpit (Space Freighter!) but... I really should pass in favor of the nice stuff coming out in Summer. Already have bought all the good stuff released so far this year; so this hovercraft is only a purchase of last resort if I get really bored between now and then. Quote
Hobbes Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 sorry to you Hobbes for the HUGE image.... No problem, it's not a wide pic where one has to scroll to the right and back ;-) Interesting inventory, but I'll pass. I'll get me the fire boat instead to go along with the police boat... Quote
Holodoc Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I'll get me the fire boat instead to go along with the police boat... Imo TLC used to have better fire boats than the new '07 edition. For example the 4031 is much better, looking at the bricks used. What I dislike most are the technic bricks used in the back of the boat (though it Quote
Holodoc Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I have to agree with hobbes: The new fire boat fits best with the '06-police boat. But even the 7899 has a better design than the 7906. :-/ @simonwillems: *y* Quote
Hobbes Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I just want to get the new fireboat because I want to try something like this. I haven't even built my police boat yet ;-) As for those "old" fire boats: yeah, those are true classics. Those were the times... :'-) Quote
Holodoc Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I just want to get the new fireboat because I want to try something like this. In this case, I would wait for the 7994. More space, more possibilities. :-) I haven't even built my police boat yet ;-) I will never understand that! 8- Quote
Hobbes Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 In this case, I would wait for the 7994.More space, more possibilities. :-) Nah, that already is a freighter, I'd like to turn the policeboat hull into a freighter... I will never understand that! 8- Quote
xenologer Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Looking at that Inventory sheet. Does anyone know the peeron.com part number for what they label as 4494486? the grey technic slider cylinder (fake pneumatic) thing? I'd like to get some of those, but debating if the Hovercraft is really the best parts pack that has them... might be others with less giant-useless-hovercraft-base pieces included. Quote

I don't know if there is a peeron inventory number already for this piece as it is rather new. It's not grey, by the way, but metallic looking.... Quote
xwingyoda Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I was bored the other day and bought this set and I can really tell you its a real CRAP set >:-( Building it and looking at it just makes me want to :-X Here what I truly dislike about this set: * the one part hard plastic "hull" :-X :-X * the fact thats is on wheels: this makes the set higher and it doesn't move properly !! Its a real catastrophy !! * TLC included another crap mechanism: when the wheels turn (when they do) it turns the engine part (how darn stupid !!) * the design is really not that great, and those side "water guns" look horrible I am so thinking of dismantling this CRAP set and build a smaller fire boat (its another project I have in mind !!) ;-) When that MOC is done, I shall post it here ;-) Fire On !! *yoda* Quote

Like with the UCS Batmobile? Doesn't sound all too promising, thanks for the little insight, yoda. After this I think I'll pass on it, too ;-) Quote

After this I think I'll pass on it, too ;-) Yes but on the UCS Batmobile, it has a sense !! On that hovercrap oops hovercraft I meant ( :-D ), its the tiny turb Engine that rotates *wacko* That engine has an airhole to cool the engine, but: * on the hovercraft the complete engines are on the rear * that thing doesn't cool anything, and can't anyhow since its rotating *wacko* I can take a few pics if you like ;-) Its really not a must buy set at all !! *yoda* Quote
Hobbes Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Yes but on the UCS Batmobile, it has a sense !! True, I thought it's a cute little feature for that set. I can take a few pics if you like ;-) Its really not a must buy set at all !! Oh, how could I say no, a pic would be nice, maybe next to another city set to compare the size, if I may be so bold to ask ;-) Quote
xwingyoda Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Oh, how could I say no, a pic would be nice, maybe next to another city set to compare the size, if I may be so bold to ask ;-) Ok, expect a short review by tomorrow Mister Mayor :-P ;-) I will write it and shoot it tonight, I only can put the pics online by tomorrow (still no internet home *wacko* ) !! Any specific set you want to have a size comparison pic ? *yoda* Quote
