Hive Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 The definition of better varies depending on who you talk to! Well of course, that goes without saying. It was merely my own subjective viewpoint. My suspicion is that the detail presented to us in the Fantasy Line and on through into the Kingdoms Line was a bit of an aberration and that the line has resumed focus on it's target customers with simpler builds a-la the KKII days, although thankfully without the silly coloured knights. I sincerely hope that you are wrong, and that their next (and hopefully soon to surface) Castle theme will go back to the Fantasy Castle/Kingdoms approach. Quote
The_Cook Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Well of course, that goes without saying. It was merely my own subjective viewpoint. I realise that, and replied to you because I knew you would respond rationally and in good humor, but there are many here that project their own personal desires onto sets and themes and feel disappointed when the sets aren't tailored precisely to them. . True. I definetely understand what LEGO is doing with this theme - I just wish they stop doing it soon, and get back on the "right" track. Quote
parksroad Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 There hasn't been any 2014 Castle rumors yet. If there will be sets in 2014 (which I personally think is unlikely), they'd be coming out in the summer. So, we'll see. Good to know, thanks! If there are more sets, I'll be interested to see what direction they decide to go with this. I sincerely hope that you are wrong, and that their next (and hopefully soon to surface) Castle theme will go back to the Fantasy Castle/Kingdoms approach. I wonder if the end of this theme wouldn't just mean the absence of Castle for a while, in any case. Quote
Artanis I Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I dont't understand what people are on about when they say this current line is different to Kingdoms. Other than the Dragon Mountain vs Dragon Prison Rescue thingy, the sets we have here are hardly any different to Kingdoms if you don't count the later additions of blacksmith, mill & joust. Castle? Incredibly similar. Outpost? Cross between dragon wall & lion outpost. Carriage? Cross between lion carriage & dragon transport. Ambush? Scaled down lion carriage scene turned battle pack. Just add an AFOL and/or D2C set next year and it's the same. The level of detail in sets for these subthemes is the same? Quote
Blakstone Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 There is at least one Castle set coming out next year under the LEGO Movie line. It is 70806 Castle Cavalry. Quote
Artanis I Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 There is at least one Castle set coming out next year under the LEGO Movie line. It is 70806 Castle Cavalry. That's a tasty sounding name... Although the Lone Ranger set said something about cavalry and only had 1 horse. Quote
gedren_y Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 The biggest difference between this iteration of Castle and the first season of Kingdoms is playability. Also, of the last three King's Castles this one is the closest to realistic in structure that TLG has gotten. It also beats them in parts count. If you don't like the heraldry and coloring, change it. I'd have had all of these by now if a dead air conditioner in the middle of summer hadn't ate up my Lego budget. Quote
Durins Bane Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 There is at least one Castle set coming out next year under the LEGO Movie line. It is 70806 Castle Cavalry. It is a podracer built out of castle towers with the new lioncrownies. it looks stoopid. Quote
parksroad Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 It is a podracer built out of castle towers with the new lioncrownies. it looks stoopid. Maybe, but it *sounds* potentially awesome? Quote
Wardancer Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 It is a podracer built out of castle towers with the new lioncrownies. it looks stoopid. What on earth?! Is there a picture of this weird idea? How do we know its a medieval podracer? Quote
Blakstone Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Durins Bane knows. He described the new Hobbit wave before there were photos leaked to us. Too bad TLG went with that silly idea for the set. Quote

TheLegoDr Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 That does sounds awful. I had high hopes for that set, but by description alone, I will pass. I was going at least for kingdoms, if not a nod to classic castle. I'll pass on anything of the new castle sets. Quote
Durins Bane Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Yea sorry guys, i dont like the whole movie theme except the pirate mech. the pirate has a metal beard lol What on earth?! Is there a picture of this weird idea? How do we know its a medieval podracer? That is just what it looks like. a Tower on each side of the cockpit with two crownies driving it. Quote
The_Cook Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 That is just what it looks like. a Tower on each side of the cockpit with two crownies driving it. So essentially the Movie tie in sets are supposed to look like they've been built by a 5yr old who's been given a bunch of unrelated spare bricks by his elder brother, makes what he can and lets imagination do the rest.... I'm really curious about how they'll look like. Thanks! Quote
Durins Bane Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) Let's just say there are better castle pieces in the Disney princess line Edited October 24, 2013 by Durins Bane Quote

My main gripe with the current Castle line compared to Kingdoms is that the figures and heraldy feels much more cheesy and childlike to me. Which is, of course, as others have pointed out, natural due to LEGO targeting a lower age group with this theme. Quote

They should have just continued Kingdoms with Falcon Knights and added Forestman. Quote
TeufelHund Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Damn - that Movie set sounds dumber than dumb. So basically a stupid model without any new heraldry/knights to compensate? Quote

Lord Vladivus Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 It feels like a pretty small wave- I haven't felt TLG have pushed advertising for it, at least in my neck of the woods. Here they seem to promote licensed, city and at the moment, Chima (it was Ninjago before). My smaller local toy stores stock the full range of these, plus most of the friends, but there's a really poor showing for the castle lines, except for the Forest Ambush, they always seem to have loads of that (I've talked to staff and they say it's not a good seller compared to superheroes, action themes (which have a tv show to back them up) and the ever present police sets.). I wouldn't be surprised if the theme is a one wave release. On a more positive note, I bought a couple of the Forest Ambush sets after staring at the box for a while (I've been bricklinking oop sets and parts mostly, so this is my first official set since Mirkwood Spiders was released), and I was pleasantly surprised- it's made me seriously think about some of the other sets. Although overall as a theme, Kingdoms was better, as a MOC-er (mainly in GoH, and Nocturnus to boot), I've found, with a head swap, the Dragon Soldiers fit right into my theme. I'm not so keen on the Kings men, especially the one who has a half white, half blue torso, and two blue arms- he should have one white arm. I'll be interested to see if the rest of the wave holds up, and if it gets continued. Quote
