Last year we got a handful of the Big Apple bagged set and my kids gave them (built) as teacher gifts at the end of the year. I'd heard that you could still buy the bag in the NYC lego store. So this past weekend, my wife and I were in NYC so we hiked over to the store, planning to stockpile as many as they'd let us buy (got 3 kids, youngest not even in school yet). Sadly, no more apples :( Now there's a Statue of Liberty bag in its place, but it's pretty lame IMHO.

So now I'll probably just bricklink all the pieces and we can still build them, just not as easily.

I wasn't familiar with the Apple set, so I had to look it up. Seems like a pretty fun build for the younger audience - small set, easily recognizable item. And I can see how it would be a great teacher/school set. I'd agree that the current Statue of Liberty bag could be a bit better.

cool story,bro

For a start, please type and indicate your posts with proper representation. This is not a chat messager and I expect Eurobricks members to comply the basic requirements of writing a proper sentence with proper capitalisation with the first word of each sentence.

Next, may I know what are you trying to highlight in this discussion topic raised by mostlytechnic. I am not intending to question what you have written before, but I do appreciate if you could share more of your views instead of posting a very generic comment.

Thank you for your attention.

I've never heard of that set before, but since it was a NYC exclusive, that is probably why. Also, per Brickset, it came out in 2010, so it was bound to disappear soon anyway and Lady Liberty seems to be a worthy replacement. Size wise, of course not, but for a small little recognizable build, I think it fits. It also looks cheaper in price, so I assume less brick usage. And green bricks aren't super common as far as I can tell. But I agree, the apple is a much better set to get.

Too bad it doesn't exist anymore, but maybe (hopefully) it'll be cheaper to bricklink . Good luck.

I think the big apple "poly-bag set" was developed for the opening of the LEGO Brand store in NYC. During the opening they were also building a big apple made of LEGO outside, maybe on some square, or maybe just on the sidewalk. It was a huge apple, maybe 3 meters tall as I remember it.

It´s a nice set because it connects to New York, but it´s easily built just with your own parts & the instructions. Here you go:

Instructions - http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/4618463.pdf

Parts - http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=3300000-1

I got me a bunch back then for me and friends, now I´ll try to get the Statue of Liberty magnet set this weekend if Sandy hasn´t destroyed everything.

Just to chime in, it's a very cute set that I like quite a bit. It may be responsible for rocketing me out of my dim age (I was never really in a dark age) when I picked it up at the Rockefeller store two years ago. I'd also gotten the NYC Duplo brick at the same time, and they combine well to make a solid part of my Bricky New York set-up.

Now, if I hadn't gotten it from New York, I don't know if I'd love it as much as I do, because it's so clearly from that trip. But even without that, it's a good model. It opens and has a core!
