UPDATE: buggy motors...didnt work out. They ground my 8t gears to a pulp, so I switched them out with 12/20, but then it didnt have enough low speed torque to climb steep angles, so I switched with two XL's, and they ground a 16t gear that had no room to slip..but it made it up a very steep incline, so I'm now almost done with completely new chassis-smaller wheelbase, but definitely a lot less weight. shock mounts figured out, new type of suspension...if it works out this will be my best truck yet :sweet: wish me luck and pictures soon...

Wow!!! I gues the increased voltage coupled with the buggy motors was too much. I am glad I am using 7.2 volts all of a sudden. This further goes to the need for redesigned 8t gears. They have redesigned all of the old spur gears recently, but the 8t has been left out.

They've updated those now :classic: By the way, have you considered replacing the driveshafts with axle connectors linked together by 2L axle pins? It'd make them much stiffer and prevent you from twisting your current axle driveshaft.

 look how old the topic is, this thing is long gone  but I hope to start on two new projects soon... one: rc car with non lego rc receivers and 4 buggy motors, since Infrared is so limiting and and official lego ones are extremely rare or expensive, and not always reliable, and large...you get the idea  it will be a fun car to drive but a nightmare for purists  the other is a simple lightweight crawler, and don't worry, the only non-lego parts will be the battery and tires, which are the Losi Rock Claws which came in today :classic:

Maybe you should try this crawler again, with NXT (or Ev3 servos) and figure out some half stud offsets for the links so you can use these. I have tried and failed many times to damage or take apart these things.
