Wabbajack Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) L@go Brickshelf doesn't work that way. If you just post links to a folder after you've uploaded pictures, it won't work until a moderator has approved the folder Oh, thanks for the info. So I will just have to wait. I bet it ws all written in the terms and conditions which i read and agreed to dukeybootie Posted Today, 01:46 AM Thanks, but I think the picture are well over 800*600 pixels, because my chrome is very slow on this page. Anyway, thank you foe sharing. Edited December 29, 2012 by Wabbajack Quote
dukeybootie Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) Hey, I just learned how to deeplink! It is like a whole new world of sharing! Wow. Anyways, sorry for the large images :P Enjoy! Edited December 29, 2012 by dukeybootie Quote
legoboy1a2 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 could you tell how big the speed difference is between 1 and 2 motors? Quote
GRogall Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 For those of us who still have to wait! Enjoy! Quote
cei Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Here is a link to some photos I took today: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=519518 Some PF notes: -I used one battery box, one IR receiver, one set of lights, one switch, and two train motors -I connected one train motor to the red IR receiver terminal -I connected the second train motor to the switch, and connected the switch to the red IR receiver terminal on top of the first train motor -The lights I connected to the blue IR receiver terminal -The pantograph assembly prevents a third PF item from being connected onto one IR receiver terminal -I routed all the wires under the battery box and brought everything to the front of the train, particularly the switch -The conductor, chair, and control panel had to be removed to make room -Then I just shoved everything in there (quite inelegantly, really...there doesn't seem to be any other way of doing this) -The good news is, everything fits! Re: TheBrickster, I believe there is already an excellent review out there, but here are some first impressions I had. -Looks powerful and menacing just standing still in the train platform area :) -It is just so beautiful and sleek as it makes its way around my basement room layout--makes the Metroliner look kind of plain and dumpy! -Long front overhang means it might hit objects as it goes around turns...I had to remove a section of my train platform to accommodate it (see photos) -One motor is adequate but not strong, while two is overkill (so of course I went with two motors) -Like my dual-motor Metroliner, this puppy will easily derail in turns if going too fast (and it FLIES with two motors, being my shortest and lightest train) -Cover removes very easily for access to battery box on/off switch -Unsure how someone would add more passenger cars due to the design of the roof on the car with the bathroom, which rises up to meet the back of the locomotive (in a sense)...a roof mod would probably be the simplest thing to do -For some reason the drawers in the passenger car are very loose and drop out very easily, so I just stuck a minifig there to keep them in place -The magnets in the train buffers seem weaker than usual, so I just used a 1x2 tile to hold them together on the underside. Otherwise the locomotive will run off by itself time after time. Anyway, enjoy the photos! Further questions welcome. Fantastic, thank you! Looks like I need to pick up a PF switch to get mine running. Don't really mind losing the driver... Quote
English Electric Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I don't know if anyone else is planning on doing the same, but I am going to put in two sets of PF equipment, one in each loco and just run them on the same remote channel. That way I will get red lights at the rear. I already have the PF kit and have rewired one of the power bogies to run in the opposite direction, just need to get the trains now!!! Quote
Missing Brick Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Just thinking - if your 2nd power bogey is in the backwards facing engine you could just swap bogies on that engine so that both power bogies drive in the same direction - so no need to make that motor run in the opposite direction. I guess the risk with your 2 x Rx & batt approach is uneven loading ( eg. due to differing battery voltage or if the back engine fails to receive an IR command so the motors end up runnimg at different speeds ). Not sure if this could lead to motor damage or if the motors are tough enough to take it. Quote
Ridge Montante Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I don't own any train sets, but I certainly want this one. Quote

Long term I'll be fitting a battery box etc. to my rear loco for red lights at the back, but I won't add a motor as I've found that the trains can sometimes be a bit unreliable if run in that configuration - it's far better to dual-motor the leading loco. Still looking at re-wiring one of the motor bogies, but I lack a soldering iron :( Quote

cei Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Problem is I'll be running an 8 car unit, so that's a rather long wire to run! Quote
legoboy1a2 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 yeah probably but they sell 50cm extension wire to in an 8 car configuration is 2 motors will be a bit slow for a HST Quote
andythenorth Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Not sure if this could lead to motor damage or if the motors are tough enough to take it. Very unlikely to damage them. My kids run multiple PF and RC engines on the same train, at different speeds (because it's hard to sync remotes). Sometimes they run two engines in opposite directions. No sign of damage so far. AFAIK, the motors and PF receiver have thermal protection which will stop anything really bad happening. Even then - the PF train motor is pretty cheap. I appreciate that it's still quite a cost for a lot of people, but not unaffordably expensive to replace if you had to. Quote

Let me know if you do want to. Cheers, Dave Quote

I've got a spare sitting on my desk, so I can post that over to you. I'll drop you a message :) Quote

Brickus Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Did anyone else who placed an order for this set, see that their order status, says backordered, even though the set is showing 'now available'. I ordered three star wars sets and this and my whole order says it is backordered. Is anyone else having this problem, It has never happened to me before. Quote

Brickus, i had the same thing, here in Netherlands Europe, it said Backordered as well....maybe it has something to do with holidays or so... i think there will be enough sets on stock.....You can read 'Backordered' on the order-summary i posted earlier today!
