Has anybody seen this book/set yet? It's an activity set, but it includes a small set of Olivia's cat and a...play-thing for it.

It's the same cat as in Olivia's Treehouse, so nothing new and spectacular in here, but including a small set in a book seems like a great idea to me.

It's the same cat as in Olivia's Treehouse, so nothing new and spectacular in here, but including a small set in a book seems like a great idea to me.

The bricks that come with the cat are to build a checkered mat (presumably for sleeping) and a water bowl. It's a nice feature. Activity books that include minifigures are nothing new, but I think it's really cool that instead of a mini-doll this book includes an actual buildable model.

I've flipped through this book, and it's quite nice. Haven't had time to actually read the stories, but the illustrations are great and would be excellent reference material for anyone wanting to get the hang of drawing in the LEGO Friends visual style. It's obviously geared towards kids (it is, after all, an activity book), but it's not cheap or low-effort by any stretch of the imagination. Definitely better than if it had relied on stock art and product photos.

One of the features that my brother and I thought was neat was an interview with the mayor of Heartlake City. It's even got a picture of him (yes, it's a him... kind of odd that they neglected the opportunity to establish the mayor as an older female role model for girls who like the series). I definitely appreciate world-building of this sort.

My daughter is insistent that the mayor is Stephanie's father (and I guess Mia's uncle, since it's established--in the sticker book, of all places--that they're cousins). I have no idea where she's getting this from, although maybe it explains why Stephanie owns a car and an airplane. Does anyone know where she's getting this from? (It can't be the web shorts--we watched them all, and I'm sure she calls him "Mr. Mayor.")

I have no idea... again, I didn't have time to sit and read the stories. It would certainly explain the presence of the interview if he has a connection to the main characters. I might have to go back to a bookstore some time and take some time to read the stories, which may have more insight to that effect.

There are also some LEGO Friends chapter books that might have information on that. I haven't read those either. I believe one is an adaptation of the 22-minute TV special, while the second is an original story by Cathy Hapka.

As a BIONICLE fan, I find it kind of funny every time I learn about a connection between BIONICLE and LEGO Friends. Cathy Hapka is a novelist who wrote four BIONICLE chapter books released in 2003 (she's also written chapter books for other properties like Lost). I also just learned today that the franchise manager for LEGO Friends is Lena Dixen, who was BIONICLE's franchise manager. They're not eerie coincidences or anything, but I just find it a bit funny since they are two very different themes. The only thing they have in common is that they are very character-driven, with a fair amount of story media.

Interesting! I hope the Friends have even a small presence in The Lego Movie (no sign of them in the trailer). I worry that since Friends are their own theme, they may not show up. My daughter and I cross-play Friends with the other themes all the time! Who knows, maybe we'll see Friends on-screen with a Bionicle yet.

Okay, I know some of y'all don't like video reviews, but I got the new Emma's Sports Car set, and I've made a video review on it:

Now here's the thing! I will be posting a picture review of it to Groovebricks, so if you're a fan of picture reviews, hold in tight! :classic:

When are the summer sets going to be available at Lego Shop@Home US?

1 Aug 2013, according to S@H. The school is 49.99 US, not too bad... I wasn't sure how much to expect and I hadn't seen a price for it.

I haven't personally met many Maya's here in the US, but I've know some Maya's from Japan as well as from the Netherlands. They have chosen quite a few names that end in -a for Friends characters.

When we were looking around for names for our daughter, I noticed that an awful lot of the girl names we liked ended with the "a" sound, even if spelled different (like my own -ah)

Many of those that didn't, were "ie/y" at the end (And this is the way our own Ruth's nickname goes - -Ruthie)

I wont be going since the event is only for children, so I can't say for sure, but looking at the picture of the set, it does seem to have several lavender 1x4 bricks. As you said on your blog, it's quite a rare instance for a piece to appear in a new color in an event build like this. I bet this set will be worth quite a bit.

I received an email from Lego today promoting the event.

Another promotional set just popped up on Brickset. No word on where it came from, but it looks pretty neat. I especially like that minidoll apron. It makes me wonder why it wasn't included in any of the previous bakery sets. Other than that, there's nothing special really, but like all Friends sets it's a nice parts pack.

Someone mentioned this earlier. I really love the apron, much like everyone else.

As to the color of the bricks in the Friends Jewelry Box, what looks like lavender in the photo online is actually dark pink. Here is as far as I got in the build without instructions....help!

Yup, I agree with the others that a shade of lavender would have been outstanding. But will settle for what I got because these sets are so rare.

That's hugely disappointing. New medium lavender bricks would have been wonderful, but I'm far less interested in dark pink. Such a shame, it looked so promising.

Lego Italy emailed retailers that Friends sold "way more than expected" and twice as much as they did in 2012; therefore, they can hardly fulfill backorders on some items.

Ah, thanks.

Hm, that does seem quite disappointing... How did you get it? There are other color differences too, like the bugs which are yellow instead of red and the plates which are white instead of pink, so either you received the wrong pieces or Lego made several changes to the design after taking the official picture. :look:

As for instructions, I'm just about as lost as you. I think the purple round plates are supposed to be the feet of the box, but no clue about the rest. Hopefully someone who has attended the event can shed some light on this.

For some reason I can't download it. Can you provide a direct link to the file?

EDIT: Looks like you have to be a member to be able to download stuff. Here's the direct link for any non-members: Download

As I suspected, Legogal is missing some pieces, namely the 1x1 round plates.
