Samanen Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) This is my first real attempt on building a MOC since childhood. I've started off many projects but always ran out of parts. It's a pneumatic dump truck. I would have liked to do some things a little bit different but I had to do with the parts I have. The frame Engine and pneumatic cylinders added Underneath, makeshift diffs because I didn't have enough parts for real ones. I was also thinking of doing a robson drive but couldn't figure out how to... The bed Todays work I think I have to redo the bed, it's too long now in my opinion, at the same time I'll hopefully be able to move the pneumatic pump for the rear hatch to a better location. I think I'll also move the rear axles a little bit back. As it is now it will be hard to get the HOG steering working. Feel free to suggest improvements. Edited September 8, 2012 by Samanen Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Welcome to Eurobricks it looks good for a first moc. Two suggestions: 1) Move the rear wheels back more. 2) Move that other switch to were the other one is behind the cab. Quote
timslegos Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Welcome to Eurobricks! I have a suggestion as well. You might want to research different bed lifting methods as there are certain designs that yeild better movement. tim Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Welcome at EB, your MOC is great for your firts one, geep going your good work. Quote

Samanen Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) As I wrote in my first post I'm going to move the rear axles backwards (and shorten the bed). Doing this will allow me to move the pump and switch to a better location. I'll probably won't be able to move the switch to the same place as the other one because I don't have long enough hoses at the moment . I know linear actuators would give me more lift for the bed, but unfortunately I dont have any extra of those either... I also wanted to explore the Lego pneumatics a little bit with this project. If I have the time tomorrow I'll try to implement at least some of the improvements you guys suggested . Edited September 8, 2012 by Samanen Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) You do not need the valve block, as your rams have both top and bottom ports to them. I also think the size of the bed is ok.It is the chassis that needs to be made longer. Edited September 8, 2012 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
Samanen Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 Ok, so here's what I've done today so far. - I've moved the rear axles a bit back and shortened the bed. It now rises a little bit more than before. - I removed the valve block and moved the second air pump to the frpnt and made new airlines to the hatch cylinder - Made a front bumper Next I'll start with the cab. I'll probably do it in red too as that's the color I have most of. The bumper looks a litte bit booring so I'll maybe do some changes to it if I can come up with any... Quote
skppo Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Tervetuloa vaan tänne! Looking good so far for a first moc. The proportions look realistic. I always have a hard time getting them right. Prehaps you are using a bluprint to scale them? Would moving the pneumatics more to the rear hinder the strength too much? The angle would be steeper then. Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 What kind off cabine you wand to make for it? The rear end looks good so far. Geep going whit your good work Quote
Samanen Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 The proportions are straight out of my head The pneumatics cant be moved back any more than this, (I've tried many setups...) they will then lock up the diff or won't allow the bed to fully retract. I'm thinking of a "european" style cab (like the 8258) since the longnose style seems to be more common when it comes to MOCs. But we'll se what I come up with. Thanks for the encouraging comments and useful tips. I appreciate it Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Than is the engine at right place, with a european cab Quote
efferman Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 its a long time ago, since i have seen a moc which is fully studded and using old gears. keep on the good work Quote
kieran Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Still love the stud look, and the simple tried and tested colour combos, well done, lookign forward to seeing the whole thing done Quote
Sariel Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) General tip: building is more pleasant when your pieces are clean. Edited September 10, 2012 by Sariel Quote
Samanen Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Yup, I think the engine should be in the right position for that cab model. The reason I'm using old parts is, quite simply, because I don't have that much extra liftarms and panels. As for the colours, I'm just trying to keep it simple, I don't want it to become a "christmas tree" allanp Posted Yesterday, 08:10 PM Why do you have two pumps? One pump for the bed and one for the rear hatch. Quote
stefan_betula_pendula Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) You can use one pump with some additional switches for each operating function. Although two pumps are better to operate all functions simultaneously. BTW: Nice to see a fully studded MOC. Edited September 10, 2012 by stefan_betula_pendula Quote
legofanatic13 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Not bad, I like the wires you added Quote
Samanen Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 I've been trying to figure out how to build the cab, but I can't come up with any good designs... I would like to make an "technic-oldschool" type of cab but everything I try just isn't ridgid enough You guys have any good ideas? Preferably with pics I thought of something like the 8872 cab, but I don't know. Quote
Lost_In_Noise Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 I have some ideas, from my own sets. These are three examples used in 8854, 8848 and 8858. All look nice, but the last one is the best IMHO. Quote
