This is kinda what I had assumed by Ninjago "continuing throughout the year" - continued story media without sets to support it. I just hope that isn't the case for all of Ninjagp's supposed "return". We wouldn't want another BIONICLE situation. :P

The premise of that graphic novel sounds pretty interesting. I'll probably try and pick it up at some point.

I have a very strong feeling that there will be more Ninjago sets in 2014. First of all, continuing a theme for half a year without any new sets is understandable, but continuing the story media longer without new sets is less plausible. The sets don't support the media, the media supports the sets, and without sets to support the media no longer serves any purpose. Thus once the intended shelf life of the 2013 sets (probably about one year) has ended, there would no longer be any need for more story media.

Second, Nabii has strongly suggested that the future of Ninjago is going to be more ambitious than just a bit of supplementary media. He says regarding the Temple of Light on the Bricklist of sets he's designed, "I'm really glad there will be more Ninjago - it deserves a bigger bang then this to go out on!" Also, on his Twitter, regarding the possibility of future sets, he says "I'm not allowed to say! It really was ending so there'll be a bit of a gap, we're not going to rush, the story must be right!" The suggestion that "there'll be a bit of a gap" suggests that the absence of new sets in summer 2013 is NOT an indication of what can be expected for the rest of the theme's lifespan, and the suggestion that "the story must be right" seems to hint that the future of Ninjago will continue to have significant top-down story direction, rather than just unguided supplementary media like the BIONICLE serials. Furthermore, the fact that he is still involved in developing the Ninjago theme is a pretty strong indication that the theme still has a need for set designers... not much that could mean other than future sets.

That's good to hear; I wasn't aware of those posts. Obviously it's not definitive, but it's pretty good evidence to the fact that we'll be getting more sets at some point. Thanks for the information. :D

I think this is the first time a theme was so successful that LEGO decided to bring it back only half a year after it ended.

This is going to be so awesome. Ninjago was already awesome now, but now it's going to get an entirely new story, yet connected to the old one (mainly as far as characters go, and really, I love each and everyone of them), I think it has the potential to become the best LEGO story theme of all time- perhaps even more so than BIONICLE. We'll have to see. ;) However, I guess in the end both themes are so different you can't really compare them. Both have a spot in my heart. ^^

We already had confirmation of sets in 2014. The original LEGO Message Boards post by LEGO Community Team member Keighlian says:

Is Ninjago really ending? Actually, we have more Ninjago sets planned for next year and 2014! Stay tuned to our website, catalog, and club magazine for more information in the future!

Ok, well... my friend showed me this. He claims it is the storyline of the 2014 line. Not sure if true or not, but:

LEGO Ninjago Book #8: Destiny of DoomAfter Jay, Cole, Zane, and Kai defeated Lord Garmadon once and for all, the skeletal baddie actually joined the good guys! Garmadon and his son Lloyd are reunited, and the new powerful team, led by Sensei Wu, is totally unstoppable . . . unless they have to face one of their own. Before Garmadon turned, he had placed terrible doomsday devices all over Ninjago, timed to activate in the event of his defeat. Now he must lead the ninjas in a quest around the world to battle these maniacal menaces, and hope that their first mission together isn’t their last! The blockbuster graphic novel best-seller continues in this thrilling tale of endings and new beginnings! Coming October 2013!

Here's the pic of the book:

Doesn't seem that true, since I see nothing about Zane or Nindroids.

Aanchir just posted that on the last page; it's obviously true, at least in some part. It may not be the foundation for the sets of 2014 (for a variety of reasons, namely the fact that the book in question comes out later this year), but it will definitely be the next chapter in Ninjago's story.

And wow just wow, how could I have missed that very blatant confirmation of sets? I need to step up my game, I can do better than that. XD

What would the ninja need new uniforms for? The ones they have are already flexible and lightweight, and it's not like they need a new uniform for battle/combat, because they can already harness energy (hence NRG).

I'm so curious about what the set lineup for 2014 will be. No LEGO theme of the "new" era (2008-now) has gone on for more than 3 years, besides City, Technic, Star Wars, Creator, Sponge Bob, and Robotics. Not even Castle or Kingdoms, which both went on for three years.

A bit disappointing it seems that the Ninja's may have the same outfits as the 2013 sets, but it's a bit too early to tell.

Well they don't normally get new outfits until a couple of episodes in, so they are probably saving the reveal. The books supposedly squeeze in between the episodes and seasons. So that last book takes place before the next season, if there is one.

Also, did Lego do a smaller production run of this last wave, or are they just flying off the shelves unbelievably fast? At my local big box stores the new Ninjago sets barely last half a day whenever they restock them.

Flying off the shelves. My lego store was out of stock of every Ninjago set of this year except for Temple of Lightte day they were first put on shelves. The Temple was out of stock a day later. They didn't get more in stick until after Chima arrived. The Golden Dragon is the cheapest set with Golden Lloyd, so pick it up if you soon if you intend to purchase it.

Actually, I used the armour pieces on the new suits and it doesn't look good. Weird.

What I expect from a new wave is not new suits but: hairpieces for the Ninja's. I mean, in the show they have 95% of the time their ninja hats off.

That would be good. I noticed that the current swords use different handles, but i think that they would have looked good all using the gold lightsaber handles. They look better in minifig hands than the current pieces used.

I'm hoping for another big architectural set. Or perhaps a new dragon or a larger version of the Golden Dragon, which is rather small and nowhere near as impressive as the Fire, Earth, Lightning or Ultra dragons.

It's not that they need them or for story reasons, it's more for the appeal of the figures. All of the other waves thus far have introduced new outfits every year, and it would be pretty disappointing if they skipped out this time around. :sadnew:

Yikes, should have bought it when I saw it yesterday. Still can't find the Garmatron anywhere. I hope to check again sometime this week.

Garmatron is the best of the wave. It is also the easiest to find, being it is at a "high" price range ($39.99, which is a steal) and that only Zane is desirable in the set (possibly Kozu as well).

As howie28 said, the set is $60 in Australia, which is an alright Australian price for a set that size. But also the 2013 sets are selling like hotcakes. I have never seen every set in the one place. The irony is that there is always sheles full of Chima. Don't suppose the show has aired in Australia (I don't have Cartoon Network, I watch Ninjago and Chima on YouTube).
