Hey guys,

Sadly, my motor/batterybox is DOA in this set.

Can somebody point me at an exploded diagram of the internals of the battery box ? The rocker assembly feels crappy and I want to open it up (carefully) and inspect it. There are signs of corrosion from some seriously melty batteries, I fear the battery box may be a throw away job but I'm hoping I can save it. If it's not the battery box it has to be interconnectors or the motor. I don't even want to contemplate pulling that apart...

If anyone can offer me some pointers, that would be awesome.

cheers,

Saeble

Start by cleaning the contacts back to nice shiney metal. If you happen to have some wire wool try using that to clean them. Make sure you do a good job, you would be surprised how small a tiny bit of crud has to be to prevent current flow. Next make sure the wire terminals on the battery, motor and wire are clean. These are smaller and so more tricky but they must be clean. Only after that should you try to dismantle the battery box. Good luck!

If that doesn't work you could always go another route. :classic:

Hey nice job with the updated version. I got the EX lower built sitting in front of me right now, just have to figure out what I,m gonna do for the top half, LOl. I,m gonna build the boom next and then build the rest around it I guess. I,ve got three of the older 9 volt boxes, two are from 8421,s and there like new still. I picked up a 8421 a while back that was never finished, Looked like it had been put in storage till they sold it.

I want to see it! Is it similar to the one by Han or did you make your own version? No need to wait on the top part to post pics! :classic:

try Philo. he's cracked many a lego element.

I did indeed (as far as I remember it's not very difficult), but unfortunately I didn't make photos at the time. I successfully repaired a block in which batteries leaked, by cleaning/scrubbing, etc...

Yeah its the 8421 XL version, I took some pics just have to get them on here. I made a hood for the engine, but it looks more like a coffin than a hood, LOL. I,m gonna change it to a V-10, also added a bunch of lights to the front, and markers to the sides.

Pity...

I just checked and don't have pics either. Whenever I find pictures of the internals of parts I add them to this entry on the HispaBrick Magazine forum. If you know of anything I have missed, please drop me a line.

... I had not ever seen this Hispabrick webpage either. What a great resource! Thanks, Jetro! I translated the original Spanish version to English here -- people can easily change it to their languages by adjusting the dropdown menu boxes at the top of that Microsoft Translator webpage. :classic:

An excruciating read in machine translated English, but I suppose for those who don't read Spanish it is better than the original :hmpf::laugh:

I like the all yellow part, you can make the lift cylinders into doubles with the two brackets you have too, all you need is two more cylinders, and more hose. I built the XL, made the boom a little longer, doesnt work so well. chain is too weak for the lenth, and its way to heavy even for 4 rams. Gonna have to redesign it a lot if its gonna work.

I ended up cheating and buying a fresh box from another vendor, however I'd still like to see the internals of it, so I can perhaps resurrect the old one for shits and giggles.
