This set includes an accurate model of Bespin, a Lobot minifigure, a twin-pod cloud car mini-model, a weapon, and a display stand with name plaque. Although I’ve always loved the original Lobot, mine was starting to look a little bit ‘tired’ mainly due to a slight discolouration of the printing along the side of his head, and he needed to be updated. I was determined to wait for a slight discount as the RRP seemed a little bit pricey. I finally purchased this today, when I found it 20% off at Toys ‘R’ Us. So what do you get for your hard-earned money? Read on and find out. This is the first of the Planet series that I’ve purchased. It’s certainly an interesting design, but they don’t seem to stack neatly on the shelf, and the packaging doesn’t seem very efficient! The artwork is really nice, and I’m especially fond of the dark blue background which adds a touch of class. Front: Back: The instructions are folded and located in the box; the Lego is stored within the ‘Planet’ and are split in two (un-numbered!) bags!. It was nice to see that the ‘Planet’ was almost full of Lego. Not a massive amount of parts (78) but a nice selection. I particularly like the orange, it makes a nice change from the ‘Bley’ of the majority of SW sets that I own. Contents: The instruction booklet is 32 pages long and the construction is broken down into 20 steps for the Cloud Car, plus a further 7 for the stand. Build time is a matter of minutes, and quite fun. Sorry about the photo of the parts list, but the folded paper made a decent photo difficult. Parts list: So what’s the end result like? The model is actually pretty accurate, lots of nice little details for such a small model. It’s a shame that it isn’t minifigure scale, but I suppose that ‘s due to market forces. The main attraction to me, like most potential buyers, will be the exclusive minifigure...so is it an improvement on the original? Well, I’ll let you decide, but I’m really impressed by him! Finished: Lobot's printing is perfect. My only criticism is that he looks a little bit serious, it’s almost bordering on stern. I’m not sure why he’s been given a blaster either, as he never had one in the original film (or in any of the versions of the film that GL has made to date)...perhaps it will happen in the next one! I’m slightly disappointed that Lego didn’t include a brief description of who Lobot was in the advert for the set. I know that he didn’t say much in the film, but he played a vital role!! A few more shots of Lobot in his natural home below, looking very unimpressed by my inability to source the last 19 parts for the set. On that note, if anyone has the two wedge pieces in Light-Bluish Grey (41767 & 41768) so that I can finish the duelling section please PM me, as I can’t find them anywhere new! Lobot looking stern from the front: Lobot looking stern from the back: Lobot looking stern from the side: Lobot looking dissapointed: In conclusion, a nice little set with a great minifigure. Well worth buying if you can find it with a slight discount. I live in hope that Lego will finally release a new Cloud City as it seems very odd that they would release this set without one in the pipeline.... Anyway, I hope you liked my review. C & C welcome Quote
purpleparadox Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Thanks for the review! The Cloud Car model does look nice...but the only reason I'd buy the set is to get Lobot. I'm not an uber-Star Wars-collector though, so I don't know if it's worth the price tag just because I kinda like him. Hmm...maybe I'll pick it up after I'm done with getting all of LOTR. What are your thoughts on the planet itself? I know that it's one of the most plain and boring planets of the series, but I'd just like to hear someone's opinion on it. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 What are your thoughts on the planet itself? I know that it's one of the most plain and boring planets of the series, but I'd just like to hear someone's opinion on it. Based on the reference image of Bespin (below), I thought it could've used a bit more splashes of dark brown to be more accurate. But the exclusive Lobot minifig and the nice-looking mini Twin-pod Cloud Car already compensate for the lack of detail of the planet, so overall this planet set is quite ok for me. Quote
Mr Man Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I got this and the other 5 planets from Morrison's for £3.99 each, I only really got them for the figs, but it was a great deal. Quote
Fighter of Frizzies Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 (edited) But Lobot is always stern! Nice review for a lovely little set. I am hoping for a minifigure scale one as well. Even if the CC isn't the most dynamic of vehicles, it provides a nice splash of color amongst all the OT ships. Edited August 25, 2012 by Fighter of Frizzies Quote
