hi, this is my first post in this forum iirc, so first let me introduce myself: im ludi, im 30 yrs old and i'm an afol from germany.

i've had lego since i was a kid, and now after a 15 yr pause i have bought four of the new studless sets (excavator, supercar, unimog, crawler). boy, lego has changed a lot over the years!

but now to the topic of this thread: i've started building a tracked/treaded(?) vehicle, but after building the chassis i've come to a dead end. i don't want to build a tank or something like that, but i'm not quite sure WHAT i'm going to build:]

i want my moc to have lots of moving, remote-controlled features, maybe pneumatics, linear actuators etc. so maybe one of you guys and girls could give me some input as to what i could include in my build, any suggestions are welcome!

thx in advance for your suggestions:]

The bucket wheel excavator would be a simple construction...

This model even has linear actuators, just like you wanted! The track layout is also similar.

I think that is a great idea! :classic:

thx for the ideas so far, i especially like the mine sweeper idea, although i should have mentioned in the OP that i don't necessarily want to build something that actually exists, i am just looking for ideas for "gadgets" to include in the moc, powered by pneumatics/actuators etc.

i'm really sorry for my somewhat stupid questions and "demands", but after finishing what i've built so far my brain seems to be completely empty:D

The sandvik digger machine is amazing... maybe one day I will do it, I love all the tracked machines

It's one of the toughest Technic challenges... Even Sariel tried it [a similar one, not this exactly] and failed, due to weight issues I think.

I think is possible to do it, if you look for shovel machines at bricklink you can see awesome and big lego machines. If someone has done a wheelchair strong enough to carry a person, not like me  , I think is possible to do the digger. The challenge maybe the big and strong turntable you need, sorry about or for my english

I,m kinda at astall too, more to do with time than anything though. When i,m out n about I look for things at constuction sites that look good. another thing you can do is look at web sites for things. Cat, Grove. John Deere, ect. I,m sceaming to build a D 11 side boom with swing out counter weight, have,nt seen any thing like it yet.

Of course it is possible. Difficult, very difficult, but possible.

You of course realize you are now contractually bound to try it yourself.

What about a futuristic robot with working arms and hands/claws and head. You could make it so that it can fetch your TV remote for you.

I have done a normal D11, great idea with a side boom.

My D11

Buf... I have done too much tracked machines... D11, 6090, High Speed Dozer and I tried with a Challenger... I have to take a rest with another supercar...

Hi,

May I suggest that you develop that chassis into one of the "Howe and Howe" Robotic Solutions? As you can see in the pictures below they have a similar track to your chassis, and can have a lot of different equipment. The manipulator is my favorite, but it's quite complex to make realistic... I have made a few editions of their Rip Saw autonomous/remote tank.

With manipulator (G1 guardian)

If I can find time I will try some of these, but on a smaller scale than your chassi...

Good luck whatever you end up building. Please keep us updated on your progress.

gee thx, i really like the g1 guardian..i'll try my luck with that one...and i'll also try to keep you guys updated

if you don't hear from me in say a month i'll probably have failed:>

Failed projects also have much to teach, I know from my experience :cry_sad:

Very much so. I'd say about half my projects have failed. It's a great learning experience ;)

I,ve had plenty of fails, LOL. I,ve been building small things lately, like gear boxes. I had a set of mat tracks made, but I didnt like the spacing between the lower gears so I ended up taking all of them a part. Next time I build some I have a better idea in mind on what I want. Then I can build a Uni mog and put them on it, or maybe something else. I,m still learning the studless way, have to remember. I stopped building when I was about 15 or 16, now I,m 43, LOL.

You are in the perfect place, I am 34 and I came back from my dark ages 2 years ago, I have learn much around here.

Agreed!

I'm 37, and have been back for a couple of years. After a 20+ yr dark age! This place will teach you alot.

I,m on here a lot, I dont post much, just read and admire the creations you guys build. If you saw the collection I have, you would die. I just need to make use of it and start building stuff, LOL.

so i started building the grapper arm, and already i see that this is going to be complicated..there are 3 joints that need to be positionable, i'm having trouble with the "claw"-design, not sure whether to use gears, pneumatics or LAs..oh, and not to speak of powering the whole thing:D

at the moment im testing different designs for the claw, i'll keep you guys updated when i've found something i feel comfortable with

oh, and on a side note, as i mentioned i started building top-down, should i rather have started from the bottom, i.e. the turntable?

I'd advise using pneumatics for the claw. One of their main benefits is that they are very light for their power, and you want to eliminate as much weight as possible from the end of the arm.

I wouldn't worry about starting from the bottom/top, that's up to you, I guess. Most people build inside-out (i.e. the frame first, then covering).

i guess you're right, pneumatics would also eliminate the problem i'd be having with cable length..my first design used a linear actuator with a motor right behind it..even if i used the IR as an extension the cable wouldn't be long enough to reach the battery pack i want to install in the chassis

are there by any chance lego extension cords?
