steelwoolghandi Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I build this a few months ago for Brick Fiesta in Houston, Texas I have always wanted to build a castle with water around it and so this is what I came up with! Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr Castle Keep by steelwoolghandi, on Flickr It took two weeks to build and I did not have a plan I just started and designed it as I went along Quote
Deathleech Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Very nice! I really like the face built into the rock/cave... Quote
Leo604 Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Awesome build! I don't suppose that hole in the rock leads anywhere? Quote
Hive Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Impressive build! I'm always a sucker for large minifig sized castle builds, and this one does not dissapoint. Well done! Quote
Groovemeister Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 This is a wonderful castle you've put together here, man. And it's so deliciously smooth! Quote
Ferrik Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 This MOC looks excellent. By placing the castle on top of all those rocks, gives a nice effect and there's so much detail. Quote
AncientDayz Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I absolutely love this castle. The more I look - the more I enjoy the details. I do have one quick question: are there any arches/supports under the tower that juts away from the building (see picture 3) - I can't tell from the pictures. If not, the weight seems a little off at that point (large masonry overhanging without support). However, I also don't have much experience in the castle arena - maybe they were done like that at times (in such case, I withdraw even my question). Either way, that castle is simply impressive. It would take me weeks and weeks to make a plan (if I even could). I can't believe you built it so quickly without one. Very creative - very nicely done. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Impressive work! The bridge is excellent and the seaside entrance is a nice detail Quote
Abu Dun Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 This is indeed a very impressive build and I love that it has a fairly unusual setting. You don't see castles set upon a cliff that often. The little details such as the fishermen hauling in their catch, the little skeleton inside the cave or the drawbridge being hidden between two towers are all really great and, together with the several minifigs inhabitating the place, give this the feeling of being a lively yet well-protected refuge for the king Quote
Kayne Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 I really like this build. It seems that larger castles have become a rarity lately, so I am really glad to see this one with the detail you put into it. Quote
zergu Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 simply amazed by the detail and scale of this! the cave is astounding! Quote
Rook Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 A great example of why I will always love Castle even if build Sci-Fi usually. Quote
Angeli Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 great little casle :)) my favorite part is that "civil" brown-white house in the middle Quote
ElmoBux Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 This is amazing, I love it. The detail is incredible, I am new to Lego and MOC where on earth do you start? Quote
Bizzy78 Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Thats the most amazing castle i have seen yet. Great build :-) Quote
kibosh Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Fantastic build. I love the tree in the courtyard, and the "guards" over the gate. Well done! Quote
Bighappysmiles Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Wow! That is so amazing! It is so big! I love the over-hanging tower, It really adds some dynamic angles to the build, not that it doesnt have enough without it! Ya, I would keep that! Mabey someone has already asked you this, but how long did it take you build this? Quote
Venunder Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 This is great. Some really nice building techniques and some ideas about fishing with nets that I will be using myself. Quote
steelwoolghandi Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 Awesome build! I don't suppose that hole in the rock leads anywhere? The cave does not lead anywhere but the other cave area with the gate leads up into the castle. This is amazing, I love it. The detail is incredible, I am new to Lego and MOC where on earth do you start? Thanks, whatever you do you need to start I recommend starting small (build smaller castles or towers) then work up to larger projects. I had an idea in my head for the skull in the rocks and build around that. Wow! That is so amazing! It is so big! I love the over-hanging tower, It really adds some dynamic angles to the build, not that it doesnt have enough without it! Ya, I would keep that! Mabey someone has already asked you this, but how long did it take you build this? I worked on this build for 2 weeks off and on. I built it for a Lego show called Brick Fiesta in Houston TX did not win anything for it but did win two trophies for two other MOC's! I procrastinate so bad so I tend to wait on MOC's till I am forced to put things together at the last second. Guess I work better under pressure. I want to thank everyone for the extremely kind comments and I am so glad y'all like the build. I have always wanted to build a large castle and I appreciate that y'all like my first Castle build it means a lot to me! Aaron Quote
