When i'm at a toystore and am looking at lego i think: "looks ok, not as great as it used to be bla bla bla"

When i look at the playmobil shelf i think "whoo looks great! So much details, bla bla bla"

And then i feel sad :'-(....since i'm a lego fan, and not a playmobil fan..

If you could take apart playmobil and make your own mocs (like with lego) i would probably go for playmobil right now.... 8-|

I'm so glad lego is still very much alive in the community. I'm so happy you can still buy CC themes, i'm so happy with initiatives like bricklink and brickshelf. It opened a whole new (lego) world for me, and now i can live with the fact lego has to bow for playmobil in the store...(on this moment)

Keep in mind that Playmobil was never a building toy like Lego. I must say that it's sometimes fun to take out my old Playmobil sets and set up a diorama. It doesn't take me days to build like when I do the same with a Lego train/city (and I dread taking apart for the same reason). With Playmobil, one can spend time adding story to the characters and the displays (the imagination part). It's equally fun, just different.

And lastly, what no one mentioned between the two toy companies is the difference in scale. The disadvantage with Playmobil is the amount of space that the dioramas take, esp train. G scale is huge, even with a small circle. It makes a single table display almost impossible.

But Lego should mimic more of Playmobil's corporate phylosophy and themes. I know that themes like Bionicle were good for Lego (in terms of sales), but to me and I'm sure many of the AFOL, they're worthless. I doubt that we ever see another WW Legend after the last collection, but a new set or two to return to the theme would be great! - like Playmobil.

agree completely *y*

but why do you suspect LEGO will never release another WW legends ???

it would be strange to see LEGO do a 10176 (king's castle) kind of thing. where they proclaim it is an enhanced "legend" version of an old set... when in fact it barely resembles its predecessor. its would be strange to see fort LEGOredo "improved" for 2008 or 2009 :-D <== i laugh cause its nearly prefect now ;-)

Because they already re-released them once. At least Fort Legoredo and Sheriff's Lockup. I couldn't see them re-releasing the same sets again. Perhaps Gold City Junction and the Gold Mine, but I reallt doubt it. My prediction is that if we see WW again, it will be in the form of completely new sets.

ok, that sounds like a reasonable prediction ;-)

hmmm... really there were only 6 years between the original released WW series and the legends (1996-2002, right ???). so by those indicators we could possibly see another "legends" type re-release in 2008 (since LEGO feels like 6 years is enough time between releases). 1 year from now, i doubt it,... but i never would have imagined the first legends series :-D

i would much rather have all new material, we still need a vulture and a bonnet mold ;-)

Me too. I've got two of most of the sets anyhow. Time for new material. Last year, I caught a Lego Displayer/Rep in my local TRU and was talking with her about themes. She mentioned that she gets a lot of fans requesting Lego offer the WW theme again. Nothing more, but it gives me hope that we might see it again in some way, shape, or form. Keep writing those letters and EMail to Lego requesting WW sets. Sooner or later, we will be heard.

Playmobil does themes that Lego would never do in a million years, like a religious theme. Playmobil has Noah's Ark, the Three Wise Men and the Nativity scene as sets. I went to get the Nativity Scene today, and guess what.... is was sold out!

I purchased the Nativity set a few years ago for Christmas. It even comes with a little story of Christmas. It's a neat set as well.

While TLC probably likes to avoid religion, has it explicitly stated that it will not involve itself with religion? (Like war and whatnot.) A medieval cathedral is something I

A medieval cathedral would make a nice set. I wouldn't mind seeing a WW one either.

Here is Playmobil's Chapel/School combo. This long since retired set is a hard one to find and expensive if found:

well i wouldn't mind a WW theme, provided the quality is really good, at least as good as the old WW line. Unfortunately, it seems to me that Lego is most of all investing in the city line and Star wars. So even if they were to announce the return of WW, i'd still be quite worried about what exactly that WW theme would be.

I do believe it will return one day, it's just a matter of when. Just like Classic (New) Pirates and other great themes. They'll pop up again.

Since then I have only seen one other church pop up - & that was in the 80's idea book. I may have missed one though ...

I remember that church. It was yellow with a red roof. I tried building and didn't have enough pieces at the time.

No. I disagree. Playmobil is far from being an "action fugure" classified company. I doubt that many children go in the toy stores looking for that new Playmobil special fig. I would categorize Playmobil as a "toy company"; but as you've mentioned not a "construction" or "building toy" like Lego; although Playmobil buildings do utilize construction systems that need to be put together/assembled.

What I like about Playmobil is their design, quality, and the overall look of their sets, esp. their Western Sets.

Good question? I'd probably call them a "Playset" company, since most sets have some sort of building, vehicle, or theme-specific component and "clickies" (Playmobil term for their minifigs). Many people think that Playmobil sets are ready to go, but one does have to put them together (mainly buildings). This provides a way of creating MOCs or other customized set.

yeah maybe i was going for that when i said action figures since like you said playsets but alot of the times the vehicles seem to make up the bulk of playmobile since there always so large (i didn't have to many playmobile "sets" when i liked them they were always so expensive |-/ at least were i got them so i mostly had the guy "sets" but even they were pricey) i think that since playmobile offered SO many things in there "sets" that it kinda halted some of the imagination most of there sets were so strate forward but i'm getting alittle off topic we came here to discuss Lego and playmobile. :-D

the fact is, Playmobil never quite stops a theme. It comes back after a break. But even if it doesn't, there is still the magnificent line of Specials to fall back too, with wich old themes can be refreshed, or new themes created.

The set shown here belongs to the "Supersets", sets with about 3 figures, a sturdy baseplate, and lots of accesoires to start your theme with.

Indeed LEGO can learn from Playmobil, especially about the Specials. If the Impulse line becomes something like the Specials are, the world would be a better place, and more themes could evolve from these simple sets. (Before Playmobil had a Roman line, collectors including myself, bought tens or hundreds or even thousands of the Roman legionnaire special to build their armies and scenes with.)
