Darkdragon Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 I'm needing more than one male head style for Friends minidolls. Well, the problem is that there is only one male minidoll (so far, right TLG?). So instead of having clones, I decided to do some slight print modifications to the heads to make them slightly different. The first one I did tonight is to remove the beard. Now anyone who has minidolls may have noticed that the shape of the heads makes them a bit difficult to pick up. At least for me, they fly out from between my fingers and roll all over the place. To rectify this situation, I decided to create a jig to hold the head. It worked really well, so I figured I'd share it with you all. If you try it yourself, let me know how it works out for you! Started with this Here's the final product To set up the jig, the top is removed... Slide the head onto the bottom support... Replace the top... Slide the head up until it clicks. Here are the parts used. The palisade brick is important because of the curve of the head, you need that indent. Here's what it looks like from the back before putting the plate on. Quote
LuxorV Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Nice technique, darkdragon. Thanks for sharing it. Quote
purpleparadox Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 That's a really interesting jig you built! Personally, I have no problem holding Friends heads, but I know this'll help a lot of customizers somewhere down the road. Quote
idunno101 Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 great job on solving a problem with lego bricks :) instead of buying some giant $20 piece of metal contraption Quote
Praiter Yed Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Good idea with the jig. The face looks really young without the beard - very effective Quote
CM4Sci Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Wow that's... that's really creative o.O I think if you change the dark grey plate to a tile, it'd fit better. Never mind ._. Nice work! EDIT: 502nd post! What was my 500th?! D: -Sci Edited August 7, 2012 by CM4S Quote
Darkdragon Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 Thanks for the comments everyone. Glad you are finding the information useful. I think if you change the dark grey plate to a tile, it'd fit better. Actually no, it leaves a stud-height gap. It fits very well like it is now actually. For a perfect snug fit, I'd only need to remove the logo from the top of the studs. The logo is not very high, but when two are hitting each other it is enough to make it not quite snug fit. Quote
