Darth Doggfather Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 <starts talking into portable radio> "How soon can you get radioactive containment down here? 10 minutes? THIS THING'S GONNA BLOOOOOW!" ^(This sheep looks like a nuclear reactor just had an explosion in a paint factory) I like the structure and shape (looks kinda like a submarine) but the COLOR... IT BURNS!!! Quote
Chuck Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Ummmm...The color :-X The shape :-X Sorry, but I have appeared to set my standards already. -l2k- Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I'm afraid I'm with l2k on this one... Quote
Chuck Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Oh, and for the record: the is spelled T-H-E, not T-E-H. -l2k- Quote
UltraPrime Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Oh, and for the record: the is spelled T-H-E, not T-E-H.-l2k- Oh, I'm so glad someone said that. I've been biting my tongue... Quote
Chuck Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Oh, I'm so glad someone said that. I've been biting my tongue... The worst part is that I think he did it on purpose *wacko* -l2k- Quote
xenologer Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I'm envious of the bricks used in that thing.... some hard to find colors in there... Quote
Darkness Falls Posted December 18, 2006 Author Posted December 18, 2006 I'd have to agree with you all. It really does suck. Oh, wait... I built it. I shouldn't be talking. So.... what's the problem with colors? Blue and Orange contrast greatly on a MoC... and I think it looks fine. I suppose I'll prepare for the numerous "You must be colorblind" posts to rage in. As for the shape, I agree... the Cockpit needs a little touch up... but aside from that, it looks fine. I'll probably have a good modification up soon. However, there's a lot of detail on this ship, especially the engines and inner core. I'll try to get more pictures of that. I didn't expect to be taken so critically, but hey, its my first Space MoC, and first MoC here on EB, so I don't care if you give a megablock. Oh, and for the record: the is spelled T-H-E, not T-E-H. Really? I didn't know. I'm quite illiterate. Quote
UltraPrime Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I suppose I'll prepare for the numerous "You must be colorblind" posts to rage in. I AM colourblind, so it actually looked OK to me X-D Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Blue and orange remind me of classic space...in a bad way. Really, what you need for a good space MOC is one 'relaxed' color (like white or grey) and one 'dominant' color (yellow, red, blue, green, you name it). You chose 2 dominant colors (orange and blue), which, in my opinion, leads to a terrible color scheme. Try changing the blue for old darkgrey, or the orange for white. As another rule for color schemes: 3 colors max (2 is preferred). I see at least 5 colors in there. I suggest throwing out the black (terrible color for spaceships in my opinion) and expanding the grey (if you have the pieces to do so) Enough about the color, onto the building. Basically, this looks really random to me. For instance, the wings. You have a 8 x 2 blue plate with a 1 x 4 orange one on top. Why? Does it really add to the looks? Same for the tubes. And then we have the issue of blockiness. My early MOCs suffered from it to, but in this case, it really looks awful. For instance the cockpit: you suddenly add like 4 bricks to the height of the ship. It'd be better if you'd smoothen the change over a larger area. Don't forget, spaceships tend to be quite aerodynamical. Using tiles really helps. I think that if you'd change the color scheme and use some more SNOT techniques, this could turn into a MOC that'd be a lot better. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I always find that to be helping the most myself... Quote

Darkness Falls Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 Wow. Can't take constructive criticism and starts complimenting himself! Narcissist alert! Shall I direct you to your earlier post? "How soon can you get radioactive containment down here?10 minutes? THIS THING'S GONNA BLOOOOOW!" ^(This sheep looks like a nuclear reactor just had an explosion in a paint factory) Wow. What was constructive about your post in any way? Exactly. If you want to bash me, do it with a rational argument. I was directing that comment to people who hated the build without giving a way to recover. Also, I said it looked good in reality. After some helpful members like Kikuichimonji pointed things out, I can completely relate to them. Quote

Hobbes Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 What hurts this presentation is the red background. I think it wouldn't look that bad (emphasis on bad) on a lighter background. Looks very randomly put together but I'm not going to critisize the building technique cos a spaceship MOC by me would probably look very similar... Oh, and for the record: the is spelled T-H-E, not T-E-H. Corrected. Quote
Darkness Falls Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 Scrap it and try again. Nope. Just criticism. Though I have taken it apart and gone in a complete new direction. I'll post pics as soon as possible. In that time, though, bash away! ^^ Quote
xenologer Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Well ... like I said earlier Youve got some really awesome pieces to work with there, really wish I had a few of those... as for criticism... I don't mind blue vs orange contrast, what makes it look bad here though, is the way the two colors don't have an organized pattern; they're just all over the place. If you could separate them clearly, maybe with stripes, or a top/bottom two-tone separation it would really help a lot. Consider making one color dominate over the other, maybe focus more on blue and leave the orange as little detail areas. Secondly, while I'm not one of those crazies who likes to hide every single stud; the surface of the ship looks rather random and bumpy. There are just too many bricks that seem stuck on without a clear purpose. If you could limit surface details to recognizable spaceship parts -this ones a gun, this ones a tailfin, etc, then it would look a lot cleaner. Lastly, overall spaceship shape. Your is basically a cross shape - pointed nose, pointed tail, long wings. at first I wasnt sure which end was front or back... its just not a very distinctive shape. instead of focusing so much effort on fitting all the little bricks all over the place... put more effort into an interesting overall shape and maintain that profile as you build...
