J4ke Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Spyrius is one of those 90s themes that nobody seems to remember, or at least not talk about much. Having aquired that really cool angled panel in TrBlue, I felt like using it, but I didn't want to do another Futuron/WRS ship again. So then I remembered my childhood, looking at the Spyrius sets in my catalogues. And here we are. Clocking in at 71 studs long and 54 wide, it's a bit bigger than the WRS ship I took to STEAM. It's also a LOT tougher. This thing is seriously solid, thanks to a technic frame that is probably spaceworthy. You can see me really throwing this around in the video, (Click) and I feel totally safe doing so. So, to conclude: SPACE! Enjoy, and check out the rest of the pics here. There's a fair few of them. Wanna see it in real life? There's a good chance this'll come to STEAM this October, so be there. (Oh yeah, it's my 22nd birthday today. Here's to many more models!) lightningtiger Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 First, happy birthday.....second, what an AWESOME craft you have made there 'J4ke' ! I'm trying to see the inspiration...a fusion of Starship Troopers and B-5....but I could be wrong ? Have a great day and Brick On 'J4ke' ! Quote
The Mugbearer Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I remember Spyrius, and I loved it along with Space Police II and Ice Planet. Ah, that were times of my childhood... This ship is just amazing! And I can't not to notice that little fighter by the side. =3 Quote
soccerkid6 Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Very cool ship and the sturdiness is impressive I like the gun mount on top and the shaping of the cockpit area is excellent Quote
DarthNick Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Really nice! I too am impressed by the sturdiness of it. Only complaint would be that the rear wings seem a wee bit bland in comparison to the rest of the ship. Also wondering if the smaller fighter docks inside of the bigger ship anywhere? Quote
The Blue Brick Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 This looks great. The shape, design, and color scheme all look fantastic. Quote
jasbury Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Nice! Very cool MOC, and very original! Not enough people make Spyrius MOCs, so this definitely stands out from the croud Happy birthday! Quote
Xand0r Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 This is pretty cool! Definitely like the use of the trans-dark-blue piece. Well done. :) I am definitely Pro-Spyrius; I have at least one set of each Spryius kit, in many cases I have 2 of them. All the hate for Spyrius seems to stem from the fact that the colour scheme is so close to that of M-Tron. Oh well! I like Spyrius for the Robots and the hexagonal flying saucers. I have a few Spryius MOCs in the works, so expect pictures soon. Quote
Algernon Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 You're actually not alone in liking Spyrius - I myself did a review of the entire theme about a year ago, and it was frontpaged. People still remember the 90s! That said, this model is BEAUTIFUL! I really enjoy the simplicity of the design, it definitely makes for a convincing battle cruiser. I'm loving it. I'd love to see an Ice Planet research vessel from you to compliment this dreadnaught... Also, happy 22nd! Quote
legomr Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Never had any Spyrius models, unfortunately missed that. But this moc looks promising. Quote
Si-MOCs Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Happy belated Birthday! And what an awesome build to celebrate with it! I was never the biggest Spyrius fan... but this may change my mind. Brilliant build, and hilarious video. Well done ... again! Though the ship seems to be lacking a bit of that slick smooth J4ke charm to it... still awesome though :) Quote
snefroe Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 not bad at all! you seem to have caught the spyrius spirit pretty well. Spyrius wasn't on my hot list either though... Quote
J4ke Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 Thanks all, for your comments on the ship and for the happy birthdays! As for an IP2K ship, I have plans, but I make no promises. ;) Quote
DraikNova Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 This is awesome! I would like to ask you to join the Spyrius VS Blacktron contest we set up, where there is a severe lack of Spyrius. Quote
chard5000 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 My word! I had just finished my own Spyrius MOC and then saw this. Mine looks considerably less impressive now... Amazing job. Quote
Bighappysmiles Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 As soon as I saw this, I said "this ain't sturdy" because it doesn't look it with the bigger front and thinner back. Love the color scheme too. Good job, bro! :) Quote
Krawi Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I bought some spyrius sets last week and I really like your MOC. Great design ! Quote
