Hi Mates, I turned 32 in june and my passion 4 lego technic started burnin' again about 3 years ago when decided to buy the old set I used to see on catalogues when was 10-12 and couldn't have and then after seeing the new sets with PF...couldn't stop and bought some new stets too, starting with the couple 8043 and 8110.

Now here's the question.

Do people around you, parents,g/f,wife,relatives,friends,work mates.. understand your passion for lego technic???

Sincerly my parents and most of my relatives don't and think I'm only waistin' money I could save to buy a house or something more useful in the future. Don't talk about my friends or a couple of workmates of mine who joke me sayin' I'm still a little boy and it's time to grow..

Please tell me I'm not alone out there :((((((

Ciao

Some of my friends-mates didn't know what is lego technic, they think that the only Lego is Duplo.... :sceptic:

many of it just respect Lego Technic and "regular" Lego when I show to it the creations of Sheepo, firas, Nico, Sariel, Bricksonwheels and many more... (don't get angry  )

Nobody from construction world can resist the pneumatic sets and mocs.

Nobody from architecture world can resist the microcity and great building mocs.

As there's all you can imagine built in Lego, all other hobby or passion can be referenced to Lego and automatically gets the respect they deserve.

I think.

You're definately not the only one. I'm 38 and been building again with lego technic since about 6 years, my wife, my parents and parents-in-law don't mind. Recently I found out that some colleagues (about my age) started building again but they "use the excuse" that they have small children and they are still to young for lego technic.

I get heat for it too at work, My ex fience hates them sights that as one big reason we are no more. It,s not Duplo, Duplo is where we started, this is where it all ends !!!

Another one here, I have been building with technic for 3 years. At first my friends, I am from a bodybuilding and rugby world... didn´t understand my interest but now they are looking forward to see my MOCs. Thanks to my wife for buying me the 8265 set.

I'm 55 :pirate_skel1: , and say that only my wife and son understand why I enjoy Lego Technic so much. My other relatives and workmates are missing out on the fun! I have a desk job, so actually BUILDING and visualizing things in 3 dimensions is great.

I'm 37, came out of my dark ages when I was 27 (2002) and could possibly care less what other people think of me...I'm the Sheep Eater after all. But most people happen to respect my hobby, and if they don't see the value of it, they acknowledge that Lego is NOT wasted money due to the high resale value.

And I'm not only into Technic, I also like City/Trains and Lord of the Rings.

I have had Legos all my life. Back in '06 is when my collection changed from a house fire. That's when I went from studded to studless. I now have over 30 sets.

Most of my friends and family understand why I love them as a hobby. And if they don't, they do after seeing my collection and what Technic sets can do. I'm 31 and will never give them up.

If they are you giving you a hard time, just tell them it's an investment. I mean, when was the last time a Lego set went down in value?

I'm 32, and i must say my wife does not mind me playing with lego, she has even brought me a few mini-figures. :classic: Workmates and friends will make the odd joke now and again though, but who cares!!

I would be hard pressed to name anyone in my life who doesn't think Lego are cool. I have MOCs on display in my office, placed one or two issues of Brick Journal, along with motorcycle mags, in the break room, and no one that I know of has said anything. Even my brother, who never emerged from his dark ages, thinks they are still cool. He has twins who have his old bags of Lego, and he now buys them Lego.

I am still in Highschool, and only a few people know about my hobby. My dad thinks it is kind of a waste of time. The only other person that knew (besides my mom) was my girlfriend, and she thought it was kind of cool. I generally keep my hobby a secret from school friends because if it were to get out, I would probably be ripped apart socially  .

Never had any problem. Some were skeptical, until they saw my work. 95% is always enthusiastic.

Then again, i am not a Lego freak as such by definition. I am a creative person that loves trucks, cars and bikes, and i like building with Lego the most.

t's not a religion for me. I also draw and photograph, i just like to be creative around my favorite themes.

On the other side, the people that comment on your hobby will probably have a very dull live themselves. My experience is that creative people respect the work of others, even if it is a different ballgame. So why care?

I always ask, “Who designs toys, adults or kids?” When you throw out the “designer” word people instantly get that this is art form and not just, “I’m 32, I play with bricks.”

Lego is one of many things I do in my spare time, and it's certainly not at the top of the list, so I get by OK : ) I think if someone is obsessed with anything, and spends ALL of their time doing it, they will get mocked in one way or another. The exception would be if it's their profession, and they need to spend that much time on one thing in order to perfect it (e.g an athlete). Otherwise, have a balance of things and all is well : )

I acknowledge that many people stop playing Lego when entering their teens (I'm guilty as charged) because teens are, well, usually obsessed with being popular and try to sever any ties with childhood.

Once you're into your mid-20s, moved out of your parents' and have a job, you're pretty much immune to any criticism.

I once met a girl and let her know about my massive Lego collection right away - shamelessly sent her links to most of my big sets, and she found it "totally endearing", her own words.

After a few dates, I invited her to my appartment and she was actually very disappointed that almost all my sets were dismantled and put back in the boxes (bad timing: I was in the process of moving them) so she didn't see any assembled Lego models. Can't blame her.

Since the "40 year old virgin" came out, a toy collector keeping all his toys in boxes gives a very bad, creepy, obsessive impression.

On the other hand an adult playing with his toys and creating wonderful MOCs and scenery is seen as an eccentric and creative person. That's my impression anyway.

Not that I really care anymore, though.

Also, when I start talking about Lego (or showing my Legos) one of my friend gets depressed because that reminds him that he has no hobby. "I need a hobby", he says. Video games don't count.

Do you really have 700 000 technic parts? Do all of them come from sets, then you would have over 400 big sets. That is very impressive.

I'm 36, and most of my family and friends know what I do with Lego. and surprisingly enough, most of them like it and some are even fascinated by the things I build. But the fact that I design my own models and make detailed building instructions really helps here.

I just spent my 40th birthday at Legoland Windsor, I have Lego on my desk at work and play with Lego with my two 5 year olds. Friends and family know I'm an addict, and happily buy me Lego as presents.

It's no different from any other hobby!

Well, I am 38 and my wife(going to be 32) builds(system and Technic) and my mother(60) is now building(system) so as far as that goes, everything is great... All of my friends love what I do and support me and most recently I was in the newspaper a few times and did a live television interview and I have to admit, the feedback that I have received from people has been really positive... I certainly don't hide the fact of what I do as I wear various custom made Lego shirts as well as Technic ones from brickshirts.com and I often get asked questions when I am out...

The only thing that I don't like is when people say "You have too much time on your hands". That is one of the most overused phrases in the history of mankind and it simply translates to: "I really wish that I could do that, but I can't"

Honestly, who has "Too much time on their hands?" and who is the idiot that coined this phrase..?
