Hello,

I was suggested that I post this in the community board, but I can't post there yet. I guess it can go here too, no?

I am going to Disney next week (this Friday, actually) and want to stop by the Lego store in Downtown Disney. I've been there a few times before (like during the week they were transitioning from the old location to the tent to the new building) and would like to ask a few questions for those that have been there recently -- within the passed two or three months.

  1. The Pick-a-Brick Wall. Is that list on brickbuildr up to date? I'm personally looking for 2 x 2 tiles in a variety of colors, but I'll also take any parts that might interest me. This will be my first Pick-a-Brick Wall experience.
  2. Any sets I should be on the lookout for? I know about the Brickley box set, as we've bought three or four of them. Two to build, one to save, and one to sell (which I ended up giving back to my mother).
  3. And finally, any deals I should know of? I have a 10% off any one item coupon that expires at the end of this month. Would I be able to use it there? Also, are there any "buy a certain amount, get a free promotional / polybag set" deals or something like that?

Thank you in advance,

JDB

Um. See if there's Series 8 figs. I could pay you a little extra for your troubles.

I was hoping they'd have a few S6 left, as I still need that Robot and the Highland Warrior. But yeah, if they have S8, I will attempt to get some.

I remember that they had some S3 when S4 was out. One of the employees was nice enough to help me feel for the Gorilla Suit Guy and the Elf, for my personal collection. I had no intention of reselling them in my BL store or on ebay, in fact, I wanted them from there so I didn't have to buy them through BL.

I was there about a month ago and will be in Florida again next week as well.

The brickbuildr list was pretty close to when I was there. I remember dark tan 2x2 tiles, I believe they also had 2x2 red tiles. There is a member that lives in the area so maybe he will be able to help you more. I think he said their was some 1x2 palisades in grey and brown.

As to sets I didn't see anything out of the ordinary while i was their. I picked up a couple polybags like the dragon and a couple Easter theme ones that were on sale.

As to promotional items, they had the mini Sopworth when you spent $75 dollars.

PAB should have yellow and red 2x2 tiles. When I went there weren't any dark tan but since this is a very high volume store the wall changes very frequently. Sopworth is still there for 75+ but I think there could be an item exclusive to Orlando there.

I was there a couple times just over two weeks ago, and unfortunately they didn't have any S6 left. Neither did any of the shops in LEGOLAND Florida, even though they had quite a few S5. This is also the case with many stores in my area (Tallahassee) - S6 is gone from most locations around here, even though S5 remains abundant (and there's even one store near me that still has S3 in greater quantities than all the local sources put together have of S6). For some reason, S6 appears to have left the stores a lot more quickly, though not necessarily by selling out (I've personally verified that at least one store near me actually still had S6 without putting them out on the floor because they no longer had a place in the current planogram for them - they just kept them in the stockroom).

______________

As for the PAB wall, I'd like to help, but I've found that the selection changes too greatly even in just a couple days for my memories of what was there a couple weeks ago to be of much help (I was in Orlando for a few days for a convention, and while there went to the LEGO Store a few times a couple days apart; PAB items that were plentiful on one visit were entirely gone by the next, just two days later). For any kind of part other than basic bricks, I think the only way to be absolutely sure whether it's there at a given moment is to be there in person at that moment.

Oh, there is one thing to note about discounts, though. As the LEGO Store is one of the Downtown Disney shops, if you have a seasonal or annual pass to Walt Disney World (the actual theme parks), you can get a 10% discount there. That's in addition to whatever sales they might have, VIP points, etc.

I haven't been to the Orlando store in forever, even thought I live in Florida. If you need any help finding stuff in South Florida, you know who to talk to.

Hey, I'm a Tallahasseean as well! I have to ask, where have you seen S3 recently?

I took a trip to our TRU yesterday and they've just replenished S6 (last I checked a couple weeks ago, they only had S5/S7 out). I've noticed that S5 is all over the place as well!

Hobbytown USA, on Thomasville Road, in the plaza with Tuesday Morning, Red Elephant, etc. (opposite the old Miracle 5 theater that closed last year - RIP :cry_sad: ). They apparently overordered S3, and still have multiple boxes remaining - perhaps around three or four hundred S3, I think. Of course, the fact they price them at $3.99 (a dollar above MSRP) probably hasn't helped them sell out, but given that they're a smaller, independent "mom and pop"-type store it's hard to blame them for marking up a bit, given the reportedly thin margins between TLG's wholesale prices and their MSRPs. Anyway... there they are. They do have other sets as well.

Ah, very cool! I didn't even think to look there for lego! Thanks for the heads up. Probably won't be as easy to feel through their bags as TRU or Wal-Mart though.

I was afraid that the PaB wall might change frequently. As for the annual pass discount, that is one of the many reasons why I am going. My family loves Disney. My dad is a member of that D23 thing and is an avid Vinylmation collector (thanks to me). The LEGO Store in Downtown Disney is just a plus (so I don't blow all of my money on Vinylmations or stuff in that Japanese shop in Epcot).

Stupid question time; What's the deal with (the really cool) 'Brickley'? Can you only buy him at certain locations? Cheers!

The boxed one? BrickLink's catalog entry says

This set was also the LEGO Store's grand re-opening set for the Chicago store at Water Tower Place. It was given out August 26-28, 2011 while supplies lasted to customers making a minimum purchase.

while Brickset just says

First seen at the Mall Of America store.

We bought a few at the Downtown Disney LEGO Store back in Summer of last year. The MSRP is roughly $14.99 USD when we bought them (price stickers still on boxes). The box is flimsy (probably as thick as two of those small comics that come with the Marvel sets), so if you find a place that sells them, I suggest moving the boxes around carefully while looking for a box that has minimal creasing.

No problem! I've actually never had any problem feeling through the packets there. The store has never given me any indication that they mind, if that's what you mean (the packets are in their display boxes on the countertop, right up by the register, and I've often felt through packets right next to store staff, then had them ask "find the one you want?" when I've made my selection and paid for it).

Thank you all for your replies!

My pleasure. Apologies for the digression on finding Minifigures in Tallahassee!

Ah, coolness. My girlfriend and I both have the Florida resident seasonal passes, and the discount at DD is certainly appreciated. I, too, am terribly torn on where to spend all my money whenever we go to Orlando - the LEGO Store? Shops in the Disney parks? Shops in LEGOLAND? Other things? When we were there a couple weeks ago it was for a gaming convention, so there were also games and such I could have spent money on if I'd had any. Ah, the pain of insolvency...

:cry_sad:

Anyway, yes, I'd noticed the PAB wall changed within a two day period. It was a bit exasperating - I found white fence elements there one day, and wanted to put a bunch in a cup and then fill the remaining space with other items, but we were pressed for time that day and it can take a while to properly pack a PAB cup, so I left them alone; when we went back two days later, the fences were gone, along with some other special piece I was salivating over then but can't even remember now.:sceptic: I wound up just getting eight S7 minifigures at the store on that whole trip (though I'd also dropped a couple hundred bucks there just a couple months earlier, during the May the Fourth promotion, so...).

Regarding "Brickley," there are actually a couple different versions of him - the boxed one, and a smaller polybag one; both should be available for sale like any other set right there at the store. I do know the larger, boxed one was there just a couple weeks ago. They've also had the polybag - I got a couple of them from that very store a while back - though I'm not sure I remember seeing it on this last visit.

But of course, when you're there you'll be able to see what they have. Oh, as far as other sales go I seem to recall seeing Alien Conquest sets discounted, along with the Birthday set (the party kit, with ten minifigures and the cards and such), plus some individual items discounted for having damaged packaging.

Yeah, my money gets spent in Disney. Vinylmations, CD's, LEGO... I haven't been to LEGOLAND yet. Universal doesn't have much that I'd like to spend my money on :sadnew:

I also do have that polybag Brickley. I've kept it sealed for my collection, but have been meaning to get another one to inventory and build myself.

Damaged packaging? Sounds like something I could part out on BL. With any luck, one of those Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape might be one of them, as that has some nice Cafe Corner parts (and my sister might want the Minifigs). But then again, I would just be content with a nice quantity of 2 x 2 tiles for a little project.
