Darkdragon Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 A couple months ago I decided to start (yet another) project that is minifig-centric. The first step is create a minifig for each US President through history, and so far I've finished the first 12. I decided to really challenge myself and go purist with these. The most difficult thing to deal with is lack of white hair and the fact most of our presidents look and dress exactly the same. They may get some refinements down the line, but I thought I'd go ahead and post them because I hate just having things sitting around with nobody to see them. I'll add new post with more as I finish them. Anyway, hope you like them. For those who are not familiar with our leaders, I direct you to the list of presidents. Quote
LauraC Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Those are awesome! Love the background too, really adds to the photos! Quote
Greedo24 Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Wonderful work! Why do the nmbers go from 1 to 3,what happpend to 2? Might need to correct that! Quote
_JDB Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Looks like you replicated Monroe perfectly, Dark Quote
Darkdragon Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 Those are awesome! Love the background too, really adds to the photos! Thanks! I thought it would be more interesting with a background, and what better than a flag? I left stars off on purpose since it changed through the years. Wonderful work! Why do the nmbers go from 1 to 3,what happpend to 2? Might need to correct that! Hmm Well yes, I forgot to put #2 up. All fixed now. Glad you like the figs. Looks like you replicated Monroe perfectly, Dark Thanks! Quote
just2good Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Phenomenal MOC (so far), 'darkdragon'! I really want to see the rest of the presidents. I never knew there were that much detailed peach faces! Quote
Walter Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Nice work! I really like how you built Washington, and I especially love the head you used for Van Buren. Fits perfect! Quote
Catanas Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Wow, these are pretty great. Agree with the others about the background, and I love how recognisable they are! Awesome work! Quote
purpleparadox Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 I like the background! And even as a Canadian, these are good customs, and quite recognizable. Now I kinda want to see some of Canada's prime ministers given the minifig-treatment. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Superb work on these customs darkdragon! Great job going the purist route and giving them unique looks even as you said they dress pretty much the same. I'm certainly looking forward for the remaining presidents, particularly "Teddy" Roosevelt, JFK, and the more recent ones - the Bushes, Clinton, Obama. Quote
JimBee Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Very cool, and pretty accurate too, considering your limited options. I especially like the first three. If you wanted to be more accurate to Jefferson's appearance during his presidential years, you could use Gibbs hair from PotC. And when you do Nixon, you'll have to use Kit Fisto's head - the only one with a nose big enough. Quote
Darkdragon Posted July 22, 2012 Author Posted July 22, 2012 Thanks everyone. I'm feeling energized now to keep working on this project and looking forward to showing you the next 10 soon, Very cool, and pretty accurate too, considering your limited options. I especially like the first three. If you wanted to be more accurate to Jefferson's appearance during his presidential years, you could use Gibbs hair from PotC. And when you do Nixon, you'll have to use Kit Fisto's head - the only one with a nose big enough. I'm not necessarily doing the figs for them during the presidential years. Mostly by then they all look so similar it would be boring, plus most are recognizable for something/a look when they were younger not when they were actual old men. Quote
Legogal Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 dd, Wow! These are fantastic representations of US presidents! I really love the lt flesh heads, and you have made some excellent choices of faces. (Yellow heads would look really weird here.) Can't believe how individualistic they are using such limited parts. Your torso choices are superb, too. The background flag without stars is another good choice with the number of stars changing so much and their being so small. Your idea to differentiate them by using earlier/later looks rather than just their presidential years is great because it allows us to recognize them much better. Can't wait to see the rest of them over time... Quote
The Blue Brick Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 These are all great along with the background. My favorite is definitely Washington. Quote
Cara Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 These are great! So recognisable especially considering the limited torso options available and the flag is a great background choice. Quote
Darkdragon Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 Wow that's so cool did you make them?! Thank you. I make them just by combining official parts, using research about each of the presidents to get photos and info that help me decide what parts fit best for each man. Quote
sologuy369 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 (edited) Sorry to revive an old topic but can you finish your project. the first ones look spot on and i would like to see more of the more famous and newer president like Lincoln, Ike, Bush, Obama, etc.... BlueCaret Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Agreed. Would love to see the finished work! I'm curious about Lincoln :) Quote
Darkdragon Posted March 28, 2013 Author Posted March 28, 2013 I will see what I can do about getting a new batch up this week! Glad you guys like them. Quote
Kintobor Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 "This figures, I like them." *Smashes them onto the ground* "BRING ME ANOTHER!" Quote
LibraryBoy Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 These are awesome! You could probably make a pretty rad Theodore Roosevelt using a Professor Flitwick head. Quote
