Lego Otaku Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I am doing proof of concept in LDD, and I will be building actual project with real LEGO when all is done and I get wanted list done. Anyway, the first one is a scene in Sacred Meadow where Saria waits for Link to show up. source of the image. I also used this one: 2016x1191 image for the detailing on the wall (slopes, ridges) as well as general location of plants on the wall. What I got so far I'm going to get rid of the right side wall after all, it'd be easier to photograph without all the walls. Also the tree is ugly because LDD won't let me build the tree the way I wanted. I wanted to build it like this tree but LDD doesn't let me rotate the log bricks at all. LDD seems to treat the log brick with the same physical dimension of a regular 1x2 bricks, lazy design I guess. No Triforce symbol on the hexagon platform, I haven't figured it out as LEGO didn't make any triangle pieces bigger than approx. 2x2 road sign part. It's only a basic layout (matches Nintendo original model), I plan to fill out with vegetation and broken remains of the stairs and I'd like some comment on the wall. Initially I used the masonry profile bricks but I think it might look better if I used regular 1x1 and 1x2 bricks (mixed with various grey) instead of masonry? It'd be a lot cheaper, about 20 to 25 cents per 1x2 masonry brick Also the tan/brown wall seems a bit drab. Any idea to spiff it up? Thanks for any C&C Quote
mrklaw Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 For the triforce, have you considered using cheese slopes on their side? There was a modular building on cuusoo recently that used that technique to get hexagonal floor tiles, might be worth taking a look? Quote
JackJonespaw Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Ah, Zelda MOCs. Yours is looking pretty nice, although the triforce hexagon in the center is off. If you took a picture like the one you posted, the hexagon would need to be turned so that it's flat side is showing. Also, I would add cheese slopes and nix the slopes you have. Try using some light bley clips, like we saw in this year's TIE Fighter. I think that your should add some green/dark green tiles to the baseplate for detailing, as well as on the top part of the green. I do think that you should keep the walls. Finally, take away all of the details on the plates under the entrance to the Forest Temple. Only the walls are that detailed. It looks like a nice start, and I'm excited to see more of it. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 For the triforce, have you considered using cheese slopes on their side? There was a modular building on cuusoo recently that used that technique to get hexagonal floor tiles, might be worth taking a look? The whole platform is made with cheese slopes and headlight bricks to get half plate offset, it won't be easy to integrate the triforce symbol in the middle without breaking up the large hexagon shape. This is what I used for reference: Ah, Zelda MOCs. Yours is looking pretty nice, although the triforce hexagon in the center is off. If you took a picture like the one you posted, the hexagon would need to be turned so that it's flat side is showing. Already noticed and fixed. Also, I would add cheese slopes and nix the slopes you have. The edge is made with cheese slope, detail in the link above Try using some light bley clips, like we saw in this year's TIE Fighter. I tried that early on but it wouldn't form a good true hexagon shape since none of the plate comes in at 60 degree angle. I think that your should add some green/dark green tiles to the baseplate for detailing, as well as on the top part of the green. I do think that you should keep the walls. The base will be covered with various shades of green vegetation. I have several 6x5 limbs and 3x4 limbs (including the new olive green) plus some 3 leaves plant, flower stems (without flowers), and 2x2 prickly bush Finally, take away all of the details on the plates under the entrance to the Forest Temple. Only the walls are that detailed. It looks like a nice start, and I'm excited to see more of it. So back to bland wall then. Still thinking of replacing masonry bricks with regular 1x1 and 1x2's to cut cost. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 (edited) Little update: Added vegetation. LDD doesn't consider some of them to be flexible so I wasn't able to make it look good but I'll fill it out more. Also added the broken remains just for looks, a black hole, and a gossip stone, although I don't like how it looks I might change it. The black hole can be found by using song of the storm. I removed the masonry profiled bricks but I hadn't added regular bricks yet so there's empty space against the back support. Lastly: the closeup detailed image of the hexagon platform: by using headlight bricks and a whole lotta snotting, I am able to get 1/2 bricks offset needed to make all the cheese slope line up smoothly on the edge and still look right. It's why I can't integrate tri-force symbol. I'll probably just cheat and print out a label Any more suggestion or ideas? Edited July 19, 2012 by Lego Otaku Quote
Scrib Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 This looks awesome! The Forest Temple was always my favorite dungeon from OOT. You've done a fine job recreating the iconic Sacred Forest Grove. Quote
JackJonespaw Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Wow, the update looks fantastic! I would take away the stems on the entrance floor, but aside from that it looks great! I can't wait to see more! Quote
