DarkShadow73 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I have viewed a few topics on heavier and thicker string/cord for use in winches, cranes, etc. I searched and can't find the topic(s). I believe somebody from Australia came up with a heavier string from an arts and crafts store. I searched Amazon but don't really know what to buy. Any help or a repost or redirect to that topic? Thanks, Eric Quote
kieran Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 sorry to hi-jack sort of but I am looking for a weaker or at least thing string. I have a 8421 and the string always bunches up on the spool if there is no weight on the hook. Maybe there is a supplier that has a range some thinner and some thicker than standard LEGO string? DLuders Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I am a fisherman, and recently bought some Berkley Fireline black fishing line that is MUCH STRONGER than the transparent monofilament of old. The stuff is designed to spool up on reels but not have a "memory". You can find similar "firewire"-type fishing lines in any store that sells fishing lures. Quote
kieran Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 That's a novel idea, I did not think of fishing line. will have to give that a try Quote
skylinedan Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 I picked up a spool of Red Heart black nylon at Hancock Fabrics last week, try going to a fabric store. This is kinda big, I would say close to what the main lines on the crawler crane are size wise. I got some waxed string awhile back from a hobby n crafts store, its nice, but stiff. this stuff is very flexable, just have to take a lighter to the ends so that they don,t fray. I have some kite string, but its white, thinking about getting some dye and making it black for my upcoming crane project. Dan Quote
KEvron Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 DLuders has the right idea. monofilament is both stronger than string and thinner. it should resolve both issues mentioned here. KEvron Quote
