DLuders Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 The Lego Group has released the PDF Building Instructions for the new (2H2012) 9393 Tractor set (both the "A-Model" and the alternate Buggy "B-Model). Download the PDF instructions on this Technic.Lego.com webpage, and post your impressions of the set here. There are several 9393 sets available in Germany (where Lego Technic is #1). Has anyone bought one yet? Quote
Phoxtane Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Looks to me like it's one step up in complexity from the Quad Bike. I'm not sure if I like it or not... Quote
Erik Leppen Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 First impressions? It's, again, one of those models with 98% black, gray and red and *counts* as much as ten lime parts (yep). Same problem as the recent orange quad bike and most recent lime models. For some reason TLG seems to deliberately keep those colors rare. The conclusion is that 98% of the parts are already in my collection, so as a parts pack it adds next to nothing to anyone already having a decent collection. As far as the set goes, the tractor looks very bland and uninspired, though I like the "lock" they put on the implement at the back. The buggy has an interesting way of replicating an "engine" and a nice looking driver's cabin, but for the rest it doesn't really have a lot of features. And to be honest, I really don't see what's so exciting about a tractor, and a buggy with no suspension. But maybe that's just me. Quote
Wiseman_2 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 One thing I noticed lately was that TLC seem to like having tractors as buggy B-models and vice versa. 2006, 2008, 2010 all had a set like this... and now 2012 gets one too... Not really complaining, it's a limited part set to be sure, and I might get this one if it's cheap enough just to boost my parts, though the tractor is admittedly not a bad looking model. Quote
Matt The Tuba Guy Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I just realised that it is basically a miniature 8284, with the tractor and buggy. It also looks fairly similar to the tractor from 8049 Quote
DLuders Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Over on the Eurobricks Digital Designer Forum, P4trickvH posted this Lego Digital Designer (LDD) .lxf file of the new Lego Technic 9393 Tractor set. "Errors •replaced 4x 99773 by 2905" Quote
Technic Gearhead Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Even though it's a simple tractor that looks suspiciously close to an 8049, I still like it. And if that's what it takes to get the new Lime panels on the front, so be it. It could use a little more Lime perhaps but is a cute little bugger anyways. Quote
DLuders Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Yes, there is a similarity between the 9393 Tractor (on the left) and the tractor portion of the 8049 "Tractor with Log Loader" set (on the right): Quote
Technic Gearhead Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 You could always toss it in the back of your Crawler for traction. Quote
Tomik Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I bought this set today and I've just finished building tractor. I like it very much because it is another smaller set with many gears and other useful parts and also very good prise. When I opened the box I was surprised how full it was (most of boxes are almost half-empty). I like tractor's reaper mechanism - it is simple and functional and buggy's little fake engine. I also plan to build few my own alternates for this set. If we speak about TLC's famous combination of buggy and tractor it is really getting boring. I think they forgot set 8829 from 90's. It was my first Lego set and it combined buggy and motorbike - maybe we will see its recreation once... Quote
DLuders Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 Conchas (Fernando Correia) posted this -- an "integral part of my review to the 2012 LEGO Technic set 9393, Tractor. The full set review will be soon available at: http://www.TechnicBRICKs.blogspot.com ." Quote
S.I Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) Just finished building this, was on the fence about it and ended up buying it to bump up my last lego store visit total to grab the mini camel. I must admit I probably would not get it (for full price) again, the attachment is well done, but the rest is fairly boring. Also unlike the larger tractor the attachment doesn't rotate in opposite directions, meaning you hear the blades hitting each other while pushing it along. Edited July 23, 2012 by S.I Quote
SheepEater Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) Yay! Another tractor with a BUGGY as an alternate model. A huge chunk of the small and medium sized models seem to have either a buggy or a dragster as an alternate model... Edited July 23, 2012 by SheepEater Quote
Foggy Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I'm gonna pass on this set too, I prefere the old tractors, I have the 8849 and looking for the 8859 Quote

SheepEater Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 looking for the 8859 The 8859 is one of 3 sets that I ended up "bricklinking" to get ie: order every part individually. It was loads of fun. That set is even more fun when you build the different farm implements that require the supplemental parts pack. The 8859 alt model is a cute minivan. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=98176 Quote

I like the size of this small set, and I haven't got any lime or even green models yet, so it'll be a welcome addition to my collection. I'm not planning to get every release wave but this one actually brought forth two interesting models that I really like. I'll probably end up paying the full 300 euro's for the three sets, but it'll be worth it! Quote
Paul B Technic Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Here is my blog post on this set, I hope you enjoy reading it: http://mizibunktechnic.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/lego-technic-9393-tractor.html Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I think the set is pretty cool, although I can see why it doesn't excite long-term Technic builders who have seen bigger (and better?) tractors. I've already told my wife, who met me when I was still driving tractors myself, that I need one of these for my birthday. I do wish they'd made it in John Deere green instead of the lime, but hopefully I could Bricklink the panels in a darker green since there are only 10 of the lime green parts. I love the PTO connection for the mower. Is anybody out there thinking of building other implements for the tractor? I really doubt that I have the Technic skills to design them myself. Quote
