SamBo Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 My first post here outside of the introduction thread. Here goes... This is my large-scale Morris Mini that I've been working on for a while now. It's 38 studs long, 14 wide (not including the bumper bars and wheel guards). Not sure how many pieces, but alot more than I had anticipated. Several bricklink orders later (which added to the build time) I managed to finish it off. I've left the engine-bay open as I intend to put a battery box in there hooked up to some LEDs for the headlights (there is a hole behind each headlight to allow for this), I just haven't found a suitable kit yet. The doors open, steering wheel turns the wheels and the bonnet opens. That's about all the functionality it has. Enjoy and please post C&C for me. Thanks. Here are a couple of pics, the rest are here. Quote
Ceroknight Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Your brickself folder is not yet public, but it looks really nice! I think the wheels should be a little bigger though. Quote
SamBo Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 Sorry I will try to fix the brick shelf album. I haven't used brick shelf before today. The wheels are already pretty big. The wheels on the real thing are small and if anything I think my model has the wheels too big. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Well done! Instantly recognizable The headlight bulges on the hood are great Quote
gotoAndLego Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 (edited) Very good job so far but you have some funky proportions going on. The hood is too long and the windshield needs to be less slanted. The wheels seem to be the right size, perhaps a little small, but the way you have them it looks like it's been lowered too much. The wheel arches should follow he curve of he tire and yours open up front and back. Lots of good lines in your model however. Edited June 29, 2012 by gotoAndLego Quote

gotoAndLego Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 (edited) Your wheels aren't too large, but your proportions are off. The body need to be taller, the hood needs to be shorter with a less slanted windshield, you car look slik its been lowered, etc. Overall the size is fine, so it just needs refining. Its easy to get close but hard to get accurate. I'm doing a miniland scale Mr Bean. so I know. Edited February 17, 2020 by Peppermint_M removed attachments as requested. Quote

It was difficult for me to get this mini right. I don't own one or have access to one, and I never see them on the roads anymore, so all I had to go off were pictures on the internet. I know it's not quite perfect, but I'm still pretty happy with how it turned out. Always room for improvement, but with this one I'm not sure whether I will alter it at all. I'll probably need to pull it apart soon as I want to do another car, and I want to do it in red, so will need these pieces. Edited July 6, 2012 by SamBo Quote
gotoAndLego Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Thanks! I was considering making a Mr Bean mini, but I'm using all my Lime bricks for another build. I don't have enough lime, so raher than hitting brick link I'm just using yellow. Quote
SamBo Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 I don't have enough lime, so raher than hitting brick link I'm just using yellow. I went nuts and ordered loads of lime to make this: Ford Falcon BA XR8 Utility. I'm thinking I will be better off dropping the scale of my cars down a bit. Easier on the piece count (and the wallet) that way. I get my proportions a bit wrong (as you can see) so I think a smaller scale will make it easier to fix that issue. Quote
gotoAndLego Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 (edited) Man, that's a lot of Lime, but your Falcon looks good. There is a good Mini on Cuusoo using those curved wheel arch pieces. Dropping the scale would save you pieces, but those large lego cars are really impressive. Edited July 9, 2012 by gotoAndLego Quote
