WWWally Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) I've posted a MOC on LEGO Cuusoo that I'd love to get feedback on. (And possible support if people like it, of course!) Death Star II wall/desk clock sculpture http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/16974 It's an 18-stud diameter studs-up plate sphere of the Death Star II, with an integrated clock movement. Move views are posted on the Cuusoo page. Thanks! -WWWally http://lego.cuusoo.com/profile/WWWally Edit: This project was just featured on Wired.com's GeekDad! I'm so excited! M<0><0<DSWIM Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Now THAT is an awesome idea and build! I wonder if there would be a way to add the 12, 3, 6, and 9 by using TIE fighters as the markers. Quote
WWWally Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 Now THAT is an awesome idea and build! I wonder if there would be a way to add the 12, 3, 6, and 9 by using TIE fighters as the markers. Originally, when I conceived the idea, I thought to replace the clock arms with technic axles and attach a micro-scale X-wing to one and a micro-TIE to the other. This way, they would chase each other around. I never tried it, as I thought the weight might interfere with the clock movement. Thanks for your comment! -WWWally Quote
DFOL Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 What a fun idea to make a clock like this! And the model itself is very nicely done, i really like it! I think using technic axles as clock arms is a great idea, it would make the clock even more LEGO-fied. But i'm not sure if adding more microscale models is a good idea. Even if you managed to make them really REALLY small, i think they would be a distraction from the awesome Death Star model. Quote
HumanPackMule Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 What about light sabers for the clock hands? Quote
WWWally Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) What about light sabers for the clock hands? Very clever. I like it. Although I'm more of a fan of the Original Trilogy, Darth Maul's double-length lightsaber might work well for the minute hand. To everyone in this thread, if you like the model, please consider clicking "Support" on the Cuusoo page. I'd greatly appreciate it! -WWWally Edited June 27, 2012 by WWWally Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Great MOC, the only thing I don't really like are the clock-hands. Quote
Ceroknight Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 That's beautiful! I would love to have one of these Quote
HumanPackMule Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Very clever. I like it. Although I'm more of a fan of the Original Trilogy, Darth Maul's double-length lightsaber might work well for the minute hand. Why not instead of going bigger, go smaller and use the small light saber blades from the CMF lasers? Quote
Mr Man Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Oh yes, this is a fantastic idea, I would love to see this on my bedside table . Quote
konze Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 I really love this micro Death Star. Now THAT is an awesome idea and build! I wonder if there would be a way to add the 12, 3, 6, and 9 by using TIE fighters as the markers. In my opinion X-Wings are good for Roman Xs (5). Quote
Tontus Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 I already commented on this at Rebelscum, but I just wanted to make sure folks here at EB check the links. He didn't post as many pics in this thread and there a couple of nice surprises in the back. I can't say enough good about this MOC. It is the most creative, best executed idea I've seen. Quote

skayen Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Hi, I think your idea is ingenious and well modelled. Nice work; I like it :-) I realise that this is probably impossible, but it occurred to me that it'd look cool if the clock hands were emanating from the laser cannon, as though the Death Star was firing / scattering golden beams of death ;-) cheers, John Quote
wokajablocka Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Nice work WWWally. The clock idea is awesome and the build is marvellous. I would love to see some other details on there like peoples ideas with the numbers and clock hands. The only thing that I think brings it down for me is the non-Lego clock hands, being entirely made out of Lego would be great. Good luck with the Cuusoo project. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Lovely functional clock MOC! I guess I'm in the minority here, but I really don't think it needs LEGO hands. You might pull it off well, but just in my head I can picture Lightsaber hands or the like a little too loud and thus not a good fit with the excellent Death Star model. I look forward to seeing what you come up with if you decide to add LEGO hands, though. Quote
Bricktooth Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 This looks great! The Death Star is a nice MOC in itself, and the clock function is a great extra. I think that the only problem with this is that the clock-hands are not thick enough. I agree with the others saying that you should use lightsaber bars, both the 4 and 3 studs long. Quote
Super Brick Collector Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I'm loving it. You got my support. Quote
friedchikenfairy Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I would LOVE to have one of these on my bedside table Really, I hope Lego makes one of these Beautiful work! Quote
Masked Builder Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I would love to have one of these too! Definitely something I would buy if I saw it in store. Quote

"Be on Time to Support This Lego Death Star Clock" http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2012/07/lego-death-star-clock/ I hope it makes it to 10,000! Thanks to everyone who has supported the project, and for those who haven't (yet!), what are you waiting for?! Thanks to everyone! BTW, does anyone have any insight on what it would take to get this news listed on Eurobricks' front page. I certainly could use all the help I can get! -WWWally http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/16974 Quote
kieran Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 very nice cross design, and functional as well Quote
BrickPicker Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Great idea. Just one thing...LEGO clocks are not that popular. Just sayin'. Quote
