questforcastle Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) Thank you for the review! I finally got around to building this set and voted 4/yes. It is a nice set, larger and more detailed than I expected upon ordering online. I love the way the new brick-built walls are formed and the blood red Uruk-hai minifigures are the highlight of this set. There is the kind of brutal realism to this set that some of the more clinical LEGO castles have not had. I like such detail. The attack wagon even has an offset plank, very bold of TLG. :) I posted few photos and notes here: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/2012/07/01/uruk-hai-army/ Edited March 17, 2013 by questforcastle Quote
Captain Settle Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 This set is fantastic in my opinion. 4 uruk-hai, Two Rohan soldiers(Although the fact one is Eomer is bad if buying in multiple) And a brand new horse. Doesn't get much better than that. Then all you need is a helms deep to add it on to. Quote
Plissken Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Great review for a great set I didn't expect it, but I totally fell in love with this set. I already have two sets and are planning to buy at least two more. The new horse is just awesome and the figures are easy to mix up for diversity (for example: Eomers legs, Rohan Soldier torso, Eomers head, cape, shield and sword, looks great). One of the best army builder sets ever released in my opinion. Quote
tvih Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 My only complaint with the set is that it comes with Eomer. It's a bit weird to have a named character for a set that you may buy multiple times to build up an army (and the walls of Helm's Deep!). That was my main concern when seeing this, as well. Though personally if I do buy LOTR sets (which isn't a given at least at RRP), chances are I won't be buying multiples. Also the price in Finland will probably be a over the top, but I guess I'll find out eventually. Quote
LEGO.Inc Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 The figs and horse are outstanding. Would like to have my hands on some of them. Big thing preventing me from buying this is the price. Quote
Krulis Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 (edited) I've just got this set and it's amazing. I love Eomer fig. Edited July 29, 2012 by Krulis Quote
Duck Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 Just got this set as it was my favourite within my budget. Great for minifigures, really like both sides as they all look really cool! Would have liked a bit more build-wise for my money though. 4/5. Great revew! Quote
Wardancer Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Prizes in Germany have already dropped to 32.99 at amazon.de It would be great if you could find partners to splitthese with. The one who collects a Rohan army would get the Rohans and the balista or wall and the one going for orcs the orcs and the rest. Quote
Duke of wellington Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I bought 3 of these, helms deep and moria and some others I Have a huge army! Quote
Huntleyfx Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I just finished building mine, and I am a huge fan. I built up my armies predominately in Fantasy when it came out, and I was surprised that the Uruk Hai fit right in with them (I know, they should be their own army, but tell my wallet that) In short though, a great set, and one that I am probably going to purchase again. Duce Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 3-4 of this set could net you some decent sized armies to build on with the other sets, and also could make a decent sized castle / keep. or more obcvious an extended Helms deep wall line. Think I'll be picking a few more up to make double height walls for that imposing factor. Quote
Zilcho Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Nice review, I really like this set it's a great army builder. However I was looking at Eomers horse closely and mine seems to have a reddish brown body and a dark brown head and neck, is this the same for everyone else? You have to look at it under the light. Duce Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 weakened and got this set x2, was quick to build and i enjoyed how it will link in to my Helms deep once its built. Although I do wish it had even one more good side model, but thats just being greedy I know. Looking forward to connecting both side by side to further extend the wall. The wall construction was nice, and I hope they begin using this in any future castle theme sets, and as already stated alot, its good for expanding the armies until a chess set or something comes out. Captain Flint Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 (edited) Great review! This is a really great set. The only price is not so good, 40 euros, quite expensive. But it was on sale for twenty percent less and I bought it immediately. Yeah, lucky me. What I like the most in this set are minifigures, especially Rohans soldiers. Torso and their helmets are really top class looking. Printed wooden tile are a nice addition. I love the old horse and is difficult to get familiar with the new, but it offers more action and it was fun to play with him in all these positions. Catapult and fortress are also good. They have many useful parts... Yes, it's really worth buying. Edited September 30, 2012 by Captain Flint Quote
coolguy2323 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Good review. This will probably be the first LOTR set I purchase, glad it lives up to my expectations :) Quote
Duce Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Great set imo, and while the price feels a little more than 'd like for a mid set, I remind myself we get 6 figures, a building which cttaches onto the helms deep or another of the same set as this, and you see how much potential this has. I've picked up three of this, and I could happily get another 7 odd to get the mini figs and more castle building parts. Quote
adreva11 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Great set lucky enough to get it on 3 for 2 at argos . The Uruk hai are really really well done love the armor! Cant wait to play the game battling them Quote
