As I really only care to collect minifigs at this point - is there a market for selling sets without them? My plan would be to buy a set, remove the minifig, and then sell the set at about 75% of the original cost, maybe 50% for some of the smaller ones under $75.

Would anyone be interested in something like the Monster Fighter sets minus the minifigs for 50-75% off?

I would be very interested in HP sets, if you need any of those figs.

I can't say I would be too interested in sets without figs. I might buy those, if they were only 25% (or less) of the original price for parts pack or something. But still I'd have to get the full sets anyway..

on Bricklink, many sellers are selling sets without the minifigs. I won't know if they have been successful with any sales but the fact that many are doing that makes me assume there are buyers of sets without minifigs.

I got the new tie fighter for half price without figs, but I usually dont do that because if you take the sale price of a set, subtract the going prices of the figs, you arrive at basicly zero. Its too much work to try to sell the figures myself though.

I think there is a market for it. When it makes the most sense is when people need certain parts for MOCs.

...I'm always interested, but also it depends on what sets are for sale without the minifigs... Another factor I consider is shipping cost but that can be worked out. Do add me in your list of people you might want to sell and if the price is right, we can have a deal... Hope you get alot of interest...

I have similar needs to yours, but I think that the best solution is Bricklinking figs. It's less time consuming (although it depends on how many figs you are after), you won't have to sell anything and worry about lost packages and problems with buyers, and there's also the fact that you could wait for months before someone is willing to buy one of the sets. This would mean that you'd be short on cash for buying other figs, while if you Bricklink, you won't be depending on sales to be able to get other figs you want.

This is really the best plan of attack, I think. For easy math, let's say you buy a set for $100. You say you'd discount said set and sell it for 75% of the original price, so you would make back $75, when that set sells. Which could be months from now, if ever. Asking around here in advance is a good way to expedite that process, and maybe you'd only do this if you're guaranteed to get this deal. But if you could buy those same minifigures for $25 on Bricklink, you're all done. No need to pay the initial cost of $100, and no need to worry about storing the set, paying for shipping materials, losing some money to PayPal, etc...

Yeah i would say generally (again generally) you might only get 50% of the initial cost selling a set without minifigs. If you bricklinked all the parts then you might be allright.

I would be interested in full sets minus minifigs, as i have most of the figs already (that i would need) and i would probably add the parts to my collection and not display the set.

Again if the price is right

I feel if you were to sell the sets minus minifigs you would be lucky to get 50%. There are very few sets that would be desirable minus figs for big money. Say a $100 set may contain 4 or 5 figs, if you were to get the figs separate the could be $40 to $70. That leaves the set at $30 to $60 but then the set isn't sealed so there's another 20% off even if you include the box and instructions. That's my thoughts anyhow

yeah i would rephrase and say Generally you might get maximum 50% the worth.

I would not buy the MF castle without the minifigs, however i might buy the haunted house without the MF and that set you could probably get 60%-75% for the set because of the sheer number of parts (maybe)

Generally the larger the set the more its about the pieces and not the figs... take a Death Star it comes with 24 figs and droids...take those out and you may get 75-150 for the set..

But the Modular Town Hall you might be able to sell the set for 100-150 without the 8 figs

Interesting. I was considering sticking with Bricklink for the figs but don't feel too good about paying 10-15 for one person. But at the same time I don't really want to deal with the hassle of selling the sets too if I could avoid it. As I've only been building for a year I don't have a good grasp on the demand for parts vs full sets which is why I posted the question.

I guess I just feel silly paying $200 + tax for the MF Haunted House only to want the figs, but also would feel silly paying $60-80 for just the figs...

Life is hard!

You are on the wrong side of the spectrum lol, this works the other way around. It is easy to buy a new set when it comes out and sell the minifigs rigt away to cover most of the cost of the set and then keep the set for parts that were almost free. Buying the set for minifigs is not a good idea unless you are a bricklink seller and will sell the parts individually.

While I've never purchased a set without the figures, it is an interesting concept. If the price were right, it might be worthwhile if they pieces were rarer/useful for me.

I would recommend bricklinking the figures straight up instead of the hassle of selling pieces that you aren't familiar with. Sometimes larger orders, or repeat business will garner some discounts from certain sellers. Something to look into.

I am in a similar situation. There are figures I want without wanting the whole set, so I currently don't own either. I also don't want to pay a high amount per figure on bricklink, but it might be worthwhile if there are few figures you want and the set itself is a high dollar amount.

From what I've seen, buying the whole set is usually about the same as just buying all of the figures in a set. This means the bricks are essentially "free" since you'd be paying for all those figures. That's why I normally will buy sets just for the figures. I have yet to sell any Lego on-line, but it seems to be a good business for some people.

Good luck!

Yeah the hulk is getting 20+ and the set is 49.99 If you sold the other 3 for 10-15 youd be buying the bricks for 7-12 dollars (or 5-8 pounds)
