L@go Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Hi there. I was messing around in MLCad the other day, trying to build a version of my Ace of Spades hot rod, and I wanted to do the front end differently so that they wouldn't end up looking too similar. But I can't decide which design I like the best, so I thought I'd ask you. Here are the three alternatives: The rest of the car isn't quite done yet - I'm not sure that I want to do the rear end that way, either. But which front end do you prefer? Quote
Aanchir Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Personally, I prefer option #2. Option #1's sleekness seems at odds with the rest of the model, and the lack of a grille on #3 puts me off. With that said, I wonder if option #2 might look better if the grille bracket were raised up one plate? I'm no expert on cars so I'm just thinking based on what I think looks nice, not what would be realistic. And you know better than I do what the designs look like from different angles. Quote
bootz Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Personally option 3 does it for me. The first one actually screams Citroën 2CV to me and the second just doesn't look right imo. Quote
TheKingOfBuilding Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 (edited) I think option #3 is the best - I really like the effect you've created with the hinge brick, and it makes the hot rod unique. Option #1 is way too curved and doesn't look like the front of a hot rod. I think the second option would look a bit better with either the grille being higher or having two grille pieces postitioned vertically. BTW, what is going to be in the back? Vindicare Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Option 3 for me, too. It looks the best with the rest of the car. Quote
wooootles Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Option #3; I don't see curved-down hoods belonging in a 40s style hot-rod Quote
L@go Posted June 10, 2012 Author Posted June 10, 2012 (edited) Thank you for your input! Personally, I prefer option #2. I agree with you on option #1 - and it does bear a slight resemblance to a 2CV, like bootz said. I actually think the hinge brick looks a bit like a grille, so I'm not averse to using that one, but that might be because I grew up with that part being used for just that in classic Lego sets (6627, 6629, 6655...). Regarding the grille bracket - if I do that, it won't sit flush with the curved brick anymore, so that's one reason for mounting it so low - I'll mention another one below. BTW, what is going to be in the back? I'm not entirely sure yet. Maybe I'll extend it a bit and turn it into the world's coolest hearse? Option #3; I don't see curved-down hoods belonging in a 40s style hot-rod I chose the curved pieces and low grille with old Renaults in mind: ...but you may be right. I'll probably go with #3 - it also has the added bonus of making the bonnet/hood openable :) Edited June 10, 2012 by L@go Quote
Dakar A Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 I like #3 the best, but as with the others, I think two headlight bricks with a black grille plate on the front would look even better than the hingebrick. But in the end, it's up to you! P.S.- I'm guessing that this is part of the blurred car pictures you psoted to Flickr a few days ago? Quote

But in the end, it's up to you! It might be possible to combine the two, actually. I'll tinker a bit more with it :) P.S.- I'm guessing that this is part of the blurred car pictures you psoted to Flickr a few days ago? Actually, no - this is newer and will probably take a bit longer to collect the pieces to finish. I've just exceeded my Lego budget for this summer... Quote
