lightningtiger Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) Kroger for those who don't know is a supermarket chain in the U.S.A. and they also have gas stations....so you can guess what I might be planning a little way down the track eh ? So first, a gas station.....those new brick-bricks come in real handy don't they ? It's still a w-i-p, as some of the roof needs further detailing. Comments quite welcome and as usual.....keep watching ! Edit - a real Kroger gas station to compare with. Edited June 5, 2012 by lightningtiger Quote
purpleparadox Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Awesome! (As usual). Great gas pump, and I love the little office with the employee at his computer. I'm guessing a Kroger supermarket is on the way? Looking forward to more from you! Quote

Thanks 'purpleparadox' and yes, I hope to start a supermarket....I will apply my skills I used recently on the BOC project which I still must finish still. As you can see I still have a lot of detailing to do the roof section if I use the real one's image as a guide. Quote
gotoAndLego Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) You need a container that holds marginally soapy, scummy water and a squeegee for the windshields. I would also do a separate, free-standing display for the gas prices; these are usually by the road. On a side note, there must be more than one Kroger in the US, because that logo looks nothing like the ones in the southeast. Edited June 5, 2012 by gotoAndLego Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) Thanks 'gotoAndLego' you are a god-send dude, that first image of yours is what I'm looking for...cool I can copy the roof trim in the back ground thanks. Plus that road sign bricked signage....cool - yes I'll do that.....once I have more money to buy those bricks. Please any more suggestions if anyone can....thanks. Edit - a help question.....driveway roof colours which would be best to fit the pay point booth....white/red or white/tan ? Of course if I use this early one I would have to redesign the whole thing ! See what I mean which do I roll with ? Edited June 5, 2012 by lightningtiger Quote
Vindicare Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Great gas station! Looks like the subject matter. You could take the easy way out and just make a sticker for the prices. But, it'd be neat to see a little board In the lower right corner. Quote

Thanks 'Legocrazy81', yeah I'll look into the price board sticker to be included as well.....I'm use to making long stickers out of short ones ! Now by 'gotoAndLego's request..... Windscreen washing bucket and squeegee ! Any more suggestions.....keep them coming ! Quote
TenorPenny Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 This is a really cream and crisp construction, so I like it. Well done! Quote
Ferrik Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 This is nice and simple, yet realistic. Good job. Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 Thanks 'TenorPenny' and 'Ferrik' for your kind words, I'm currently working on the decals but have run out of sticker material....hopefully in the next two days I'll have the spare 14 bucks for 20 sheets of 4x6 magic ! Quote
LegoJalex Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 I think it looks good! I like the simplicity in it. And I love the little cabin where the guy sits in. But I miss some details on the pillars though, or some colour changes there. I think they are a bit too white now. About the roof, maybe red to pick up the red in the "Kroger text"? Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 Thanks 'LegoJalex', too much white.....okay tan will be the replacement colour for the uprights. Quote
gotoAndLego Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited) PM your email and this weekend I'll take a bunch of photos of Kroger gas stations. I have never seen the Kroger logo you posted and would suggest your using the blue oval one. Are there any other American businesses you want me to photograph? In exchange I expect you to send me photos of Barter Town. Edited June 6, 2012 by gotoAndLego Quote

In exchange I expect you to send me photos of Barter Town. No problem 'goto' I shall today and thanks for the name.....Barter Town or just simply a town called Barter. It does have the American ring to it.....name wise anyway. So I'll have to fuse both i.d.'s for Kroger into it...I see what you mean the actual grocery stores use an oval logo, but the gas stations have appeared to have phased in that new logo. It seems to be applied to the gas stations only. If I must change the trim I'll have to change the colours on the gas pumps from red trim to white trim ? Oh, found this I'll make for it.... Edit - oh, dam it now I find this sign which appears to an old oval logo'ed sign changed to the new type.... Also here two types of other looks.... And not to forget this brand..... The tiger now really says......HELP ! Edited June 6, 2012 by lightningtiger Quote

lightningtiger Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 Didn't you know that Americans think that all Aussies get every Mad Max reference. Maybe that's why every second driveway in Oz has a V8 parked up it ! But I like 'Barter', simple and believable....I hope ? Anyway, I agreed with the front up rights being too white so lets see what I did yesterday..... More to come still so keep watching ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 More changes a foot.... A picture speaks a thousand words.....more to come, keep watching ! Quote
purpleparadox Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Wow! It's really coming together! I love the sign. This might be one of my favourite creations from you yet! Quote
LegoJalex Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Nice! that big Kroger-sign looks awesome! It looks quite realistic. And I think the pillars look better now. Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 Thanks 'purpleparadox' and 'LegoJalex' for your kind words, it wasn't that hard to do to make that sign.....I knocked it out in less than an hour. So I will make the driveway roof the same white with red/blue stripe since it appears to be more popular. Keep watching ! Quote
gotoAndLego Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 LT, I emailed you the pics, did you get them? Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 LT, I emailed you the pics, did you get them? Thanks 'goto', perfect images ! I'll compare driveway roof thickness so I can trim it just right. Keep watching everyone ! Quote
gotoAndLego Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 The roof should be high enough to drive a tractor trailor semi underneath, and you should be able to see the height of the price sign from the photo I sent. Quote
SDH Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Such a simple, elegant build. I love how your stuff isn't flashy, but true to sources, and your creative use of parts. Well done. One beef, your source pic for the sign is old, those prices are a buck a gallon low for Kroger now, and 2 bucks low for where I am in Seattle, WA, haha. Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 9, 2012 Author Posted June 9, 2012 Just some trim changes today, I'll look at the roof issue this week coming. Thanks for the kind words too 'SDH' ! More improvements coming.....so keep watching ! Quote
