afoldad Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The set is sold out at LSH and Amazon isn't selling it direct anymore. Is TLG coming out with a new set to replace this one? Quote
Saberwing40k Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The set is sold out at LSH and Amazon isn't selling it direct anymore. Is TLG coming out with a new set to replace this one? Hmmmmm.... I seriously doubt it. I mean, if they were coming out with a new one, there would have been an announcement, or something, maybe a spy photo, or toy fair presentation. what's more likely is a restock, or maybe an update, like the 2.0 one. i really doubt that Lego would just discontinue a successful product like Mindstorms just like that. But just in case, head over to TRU, they still have 'em. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I have heard some info regarding this............. Quote
Meatman Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I thought that I read somewhere that Mindstorm was more popular than Technic and Lego also sold more Mindstorm then Technic? Quote
DLuders Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 On Saturday, I received the new, full-color Lego catalog (the one with the "Lord of the Rings" cover). On Page 35, there was a full-color entry for LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT 2.0 -- "LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT is back and better than ever, with robot models, even more customizable programming and technology including a color sensor!...." One can read all about it on this Shop.Lego.com webpage (it's out of stock until June 23), or on Mindstorms.Lego.com . You may want to visit the Mindboards Forum to discuss it further. Quote

Alasdair Ryan Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited) When i was down on Manchester,i was speaking to some one regarding 'the future of nxt' and also about those new servo motors.I can't say any thing else about these two thinks,as i don't know if it is true. We will just have to wait and see. Edited June 6, 2012 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
Burf2000 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Mindstorms is defiantly not being discontinued. :) Quote
afoldad Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 I started this topic because I was seeing some hints of it being discontinued around the Internet from a few retailers. This Amazon listing says the manufacturer has discontinued the product. http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-4494799-Mindstorms-NXT/dp/B000E4FDAE I also found a Walmart listing in Google Cache that said the same thing, although if you go the Walmart web site it doesn't say that anymore. I even saw a few eBay auctions that said the same thing, although there aren't enough grains of salt on earth for me to think eBay auction listings are reliable sources of info. What got me really wondering is that the prices for this set have skyrocketed in the last week or two on Amazon (who doesn't sell it directly anymore as of last week) and eBay. This could be a supply and demand thing due to LSH being out of stock right now. I've haven't been back in Lego for long enough to gauge the market forces at play here. Quote

It's probably being replaced by a next generation set. Original NXT set 8527 was replaced by version 2.0 set 8547. LEGO may be about to release the 3.0 or something soon and has to kill off existing set first. I saw something about new servo motor but not much else. Quote
Phoxtane Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 I kind of doubt that. There was what, a six-year gap between the RCX and the NXT? I don't really expect them to break the trend until absolutely necessary. Quote

Cwetqo Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 You are answering to one year old post. I think that now we all know that new Minstorms line is coming out, we just dont know exactly when. Official date is august 3rd, but I heard that they are having some problems with intelli-brick. Quote
