J4ke Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Ever wonder what a military version of the space shuttle would look like? I never did, until TR came up with a totally awesome contest. Then I thought fast, and came up with this little ship. I did a bit of research on the X-Plane series, but none of it really stuck, so I ended up going off my own imagination, plus the rather cool tail from the X-15, because apparently this shape is more stable at hypersonic speeds. But anyway... it fits a dude up front in moderate comfort, sports retractable lasers, spacial mines and a pair of nukes, safely hidden under heat-resistant panels, and it uses Solid Rocket Boosters and External Fuel Tanks to blast its way into space, just like its bigger, more friendly brother. (I'm not gonna ask you all to be super-critical on this, it was a fairly quick and leisurely one-day build that leapfrogged its way to the top of my build queue. Just enjoy it for what it is, a cool little fighter spacejet thing.) More pics in the photoset, as always. SPACE! Quote
Plastic Brick Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Looks like a fighter jet and a space shuttle mated. Nice! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 The cheese slope step ups on the front look great! Definitely has a military feel Quote
Si-MOCs Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Really really nice. Totally feels plausible! And the working weapons bay are awesome. I am very much looking forward to TR's contest. Should be some fantastic ships! (I'm not gonna ask you all to be super-critical on this, it was a fairly quick and leisurely one-day build that leapfrogged its way to the top of my build queue. Just enjoy it for what it is, a cool little fighter spacejet thing.) Oh so now you're going to choose when you want us to give out some tough love? Seriously it's really well done. Even if I wanted to be super critical there isn't much here to nit pick. Quote
ETAV8R Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Looks good but the tail does not not remind me of an X-15 at all. Quote
Kit Fisto Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Hah, very nice idea!Nice sloping in the front! P.S.What is "TR contest"? Quote
DraikNova Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 The one way to describe this is "Resistance is useless!" . Anyway, cool MOC. Hope you win. Quote
Si-MOCs Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 P.S.What is "TR contest"? TR = .Tromas from Flickr Starfighter Contest by .Tromas, on Flickr (Sorry to digress from your moc discussion J4ke) Quote
rongYIREN Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Nice work J4ke! It's a pretty sleek design overall except for the tail. I see what you were doing by trying to emulate the X-15 tail, but for my two cents, I think a more sloping tail or even double sloping tails(X-37) would flow better with the over all design. Quote
Scorpion Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 LOL, Space Shootle, I see what you did there! :p Anyway, it's a nice little craft, keep up the good work! Quote
J4ke Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 Thanks y'all! PS, check out that contest, you know you want to! Quote
Rook Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 At first glace I thought, "Oh no please tell me Jake knows how to spell shuttle." Then I started reading it. Nice. Especially enjoyed the detail of the flags on the wings. Quote
Apollo Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Looks good but the tail does not not remind me of an X-15 at all. While not as thin, the two are comparable by their vertical rhombus-likeness. Very unique MOC! the overall shape of the craft is reminiscent of the Classic Space logo (and variants). Nice work! Quote
