Phoxtane Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Where does one get four of those wheels, anyway? They appear to be rare and the one [yes, singular!] I've seen on ebay is going for 70 USD. Quote
Omikron Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 Metallic colored. Thank you =) Where does one get four of those wheels, anyway? They appear to be rare and the one [yes, singular!] I've seen on ebay is going for 70 USD. You can find some on bricklink. You can search for tires only, wheels only or complete wheel+tire assembly Each new fully assembly costs about 60$ Used is about 25-30$ Quote
allanp Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Now i'm glad I bought 4 PP wheels and tyres for £13 (for all 4) from Lego when they were first released. Quote
Milan Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Cool tires, big, heavy and wide. Pretty rare, expensive and hard to mount and motorize properly. I would suggest you to buy some only if you have specific project for them to use. Quote
Darth Dino Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) Hi i had luck when i searched ebay for something uncommon: Look for "monster tires lego" or similar instead of 8466 or Powerpuller wheels. The first got me a half build offroader with all suspension and steering parts (beside the whole wheels) for below 40€. If you are looking for something what everyone is looking for you will have to pay a higher price tag. My monster tire find had only 5 viewers... ;) Every auction with Lego setnumber in the top will be easier to find = generates a higher price tag. I have seen ( and unfortunately missed) e.g. the Lego Eifel tower for ~250€ without the setnumber in the top... Anyway i have enougth parts for a huge 8x8 ;) Dino Edited June 2, 2012 by Darth Dino Quote
Sariel Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Be aware that these wheels are not as useful as they appear to be. They are very heavy, very wide and hence difficult in steering, and they have very high rolling resistance which makes them real "torque eaters" for motorized vehicles. The new Unimog wheels from the 8110 set perform way better - you can consider them as an alternative. Quote
allanp Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I really like em, but as with most lego wheels they don't really look like any real life wheel (except for maybe a Power puller, but even then the edges are too rounded). The hubs are a bit too large in diameter to be a monster truck wheel and the tread pattern i've never seen on a real life tyre before. I think technic wheels in general are all too shallow in the hubs (one reason I like the PP wheels is for their deeper hubs as well as the 8448 wheels) and could do with looking much more like their real world counterparts. Matt The Tuba Guy Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) I got my set of four by buying 8466 4x4 offroader. you get four of the wheels + tyres plus some awesome metallic olive green parts, and the set itself is quite cool. they don't have 'power puller' printed on the side of the tyre, but I really don't think that matters. as for the wheels themselves, they look like they could be made out of aluminium with a matte finish, they do look quite good. I would love to get them chromed though, or at least find a more metallic paint. just a note, the Ferrari F1 1:8 uses these wheels as well (different tyres obviously!), but they are only metallic on the outside. Phoxtane Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Unfortunately, 8466 costs nearly three times what it would take to get the tires themselves! Though the olive-green parts are nice, I don't think they're THAT nice IMO. Quote
S.I Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 (edited) You just need to get lucky on ebay and hope someone doesn't know the set number. (So something like this or this or this. I cant find the last recent example, but someone was selling multiple technic vehicles and you could see a 8466 in the corner in the shadow, and I barely recoqnised it, I think the entire lot went for under 100 euros. ) Edited June 14, 2012 by S.I Quote
davidmull Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 I bought a mint 8466 of a friend a few months ago for €50, had only 5 small parts missing which cost 6 euro to replace. I really only bought it for the wheels. Glad I did now as I can try the wheels on 9398 when it comes out. Quote
skylinedan Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I just bought a 8421 on e bay with 3 other sets in the lot plus 2 of the power puller wheels for less than 270 shipped. it was an odd buy, all the sets are from 2005, the crane looked like it was built and put on display. the tires look like brand new, as does most all the other parts. Not sure if I,m gonna keep the tires, don't really have a use for them, but then again we are talking the largest tires LEGO ever produced , LOL. Dan Quote
