J4ke Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 It's SPACE, but browner than ever! To my recollection, this is the first time I've built a brown fig-scale spaceship, and the first time I've ever used the orangey-brown colour at all. I mean, I don't even know the actual name of it, despite having had some since that Designer dinosaur set many years ago. But anyway, I digress. You can probably tell that there's some TR inspiration going on here, because that guy is just too cool and I wanted to try his compact building style. But then I added my bizarre angular style, crazy internal structure, and ended up with this. I love it. Come to the NSC Leicester event, and I may even let you swoosh it. Also, there was some discussion on AFOL 16+ that there's not enough "tough love" constructive criticism anymore, not since CSF died. So I invite you all to rip this to shreds, should you be so inclined. But constructively. More pics in the Photoset, let me know what you like and what you think could be better. Quote
Si-MOCs Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Great shaping Jake! Really liking it. And you're right it's has that TR feel to it. That being said /puts on tough love hat/ I think you could have paneled up the area with the technic frame. For some builders - it could be exposed / greeble structure - but I know for you, you tend to go for more smooth look - and I think for this ship having that tiled up or use wedge plate or something would have been nicer. Similarly I'm surprised you didn't tile up the wings a bit more. While the dark brown stripes are nice, I feel you could have extended it down into the cock pit area (so that the big wedge sort of flows into it - right under the canopy) Lastly your photography. You're shooting from the left side of the ship, but your light source is on the right side... flip it the other way. Honestly the above is super duper nitpicky comments. I really do this this was still awesome ! Quote
DraikNova Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I think this is the second time ever that I've seen that shade of brown on a MOC (the first time was on a MOC of my own). Great, great, great, GREAT! Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Another excellent space craft from you 'J4ke', a nice shade of brown there. In space who can tell what colours are what unless there is light to shine off it. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 The shaping on this is very cool And the engines work nicely with the rest of the ship Quote
zero1312 Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 The shape reminds me of the R-Ships from the R-Type games..... Quote
J4ke Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 ^As well it should, since it's directly inspired by a guy whose model was inspired by that. ;P Thanks guys, look out for the Mark 2 version of this, coming tomorrow or soonish. Quote
Si-MOCs Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Mark 2 rocks my socks! Nice work with those sloped bricks! No new comments :P Quote
